Poultry Science
Plans Trukey Sale
Sidney Coufal, president of the
Poultry Science Club, announced
today that the club will sponsor
a smoked turkey sale again this
year.
Coufal said for the past six
years the profits from the sale
has been used to send the junior
and senior poultry judging teams
to the national contest and to aid
in the support of other club ac
tivities.
The club purchases U. S. gov
ernment - inspected “Grade A”
turkeys and has the Oak Ridge
Smokehouse of Fredericksburg
smoke them. These turkeys range
in size from nine to twelve pounds.
They are packaged in Cry-O-Vac
bags so they can be frozen and
stored.
Last year the club sold more
than 300 turkeys. This year, in
formation can be obtained from
the Poultry Science Department
or the birds may be bought at the
Poultry Science Farm.

Fifty-seven million Americans
—which is almost one out of
three—pedaled away in 1966 and
made bicycling one of this na
tion’s most popular participant
sports, says Miss Lucille Moore,
Extension recreation specialist
at Texas A&M University.
If you want to whirl off to
join them, you should know some
thing about what kind of bicycle
to buy.
There are three distinct types:
(1) Middleweight bikes have tires
13/4 inches in diameter and are
lighter than the old balloon-tired
heavyweights, now nearly ex
tinct. Middleweights are sturdy
and good for kids, but other rid
ers find them cumbersome and
tiring. (2) Lightweights come in
3, 5, 10 and 15 gear speed models.
Unfortunately, some lightweights
are light in name only. Heft
them and compare the weights.
(3) The fad bikes, such as the
currently widely popular “high-
rise” and folding models make up
the third group.
The fad bikes account for half
the sales today. Basically^ these
are merely variations of the old
small-wheel heavy or middle
weight bikes with the seat and
handlebars hiked up high. They
have 16-to-20-inch wheels, “high-
rise” handlebars and long "bana
na seats.” Some even have a
back rest. Sometimes the bikes
have fat,, slick dragster tires on
the rear and other motorcycle
affectations.
Aimed more at the adult
market are bikes that break apart
or fold up for carrying in cars or
boats. They adjust for all size
people, and some have gears.
