Batt Grid Predictions FRANK HORAK TCU defender meets Ag-gies Saturday night on Kyle Field. Horak leads nation in pass interceptions with five. A weekly picking poll that conies out on Thursday is next to unheard of, but it’s happening at The Battalion this week. Sports Editor Bob Jones ac cepted the challenge from chief assistant Gary Sherer and the race is about to begin. Jones transferred to The Battalion from the Bryan Daily Eagle where he was suffering a humiliating .600 in his weekly game guessing. Now Sherer plays the game a little different from most guess- ers. He’s an avid statistics lover and remembers all the facts to way back when. He made all of picks last July after studying pre-season polls and the opinions of the professionals. But Sherer doesn’t just pick a couple of games a week. He keeps a little notebook with predictions for 60 college games a week—all done before the season started— and he presently holds a .683 average for the season. The editor figured he didn’t have a chance with the 60 teams, so for this contest we decided to go with the Southwest Confer ence games, the four best in the Top Ten and wind up with two high school games. Jones won’t offer any explana tion for his random guesses, just a listing. But tomorrow Sherer will have a complete explanation for his choices. Saturday’s Forecast Looks Fine Football and weather forecasts are looking up at Texas A&M, where the Aggies meet Texas Christian University Saturday night. A&M handily defeated Texas Tech and tied a strong Louisiana State team in its last two games. Long-range weather forecasts promise near ideal circumstances for the 7:30 p.m. Saturday game. The Weather Station of A&M’s Meteorology Department fore casts partly cloudy skies, 75 to 78 degree temperatures and winds south to southeast at 10 mph for the TCU contest. “We’ll have less than a 10 per cent chance of rain Saturday night,” predicted Jim Lightfoot, station manager. He said station charts indicate heavier than normal precipitation the next five days, with .3 to .4 inches the average. Low clouds and rain today and tomorrow should break Thursday evening and come back in on a Gulf flow Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Afternoon rain showers are normal for the projected flow of wind off the Gulf,” he added. The station is “batting” 1.000 on game forecasts, predicting the weather accurately for the Tech game.
