The new branch of the depart ment is made up of local men who work under the leadership of Brazos County Sheriff J. W. Hamilton, College Station-Texas A&M Auxiliary Police Chief Bill Scott and Texas A&M Police Chief Ed Powell. The object of the new depart ment is to prepare the county and cities for local and state emer gencies, and if such a need ever arises, a national emergency. In order to accomplish this, the Auxiliary Police Force was formed to supplement the local police departments in emergencies or whenever needed. The men who make up the auxiliary force go through a thorough training program, di rected by the three local Civil Defense directors. They are taught emergency procedures which can be put to practice quickly and efficiently when they are called on. Texas A&M Police Chief Powell said the auxiliary police function in instances other than emergen cies, such as at Texas A&M home football games. They are assigned to different areas to help park cars and at strategic intersections to direct the heavy traffic. “It works very well,” Powell said. Part of the efficiency of the traffic program can be attributed to Dr. W. H. Clayton and C. E. Bolton, who direct the traffic situation from the air and report to the police directing traffic through use of a two way radio communications system. Powell also said plans were being made for traffic situations to be broadcast over local radio stations before and after football games. . . . GUARANTEED BY A TOP COMPANY ... Emon, assistant professor of nuclear engineering, has announced a special course in nuclear engineering will be of fered for wives again this semester. “The course, offered last year for the first time, has proved to be very succesful,“ Emon said. He stressed the purpose of the course is to provide the wives of men in the field of nuclear engi neering a better understanding of their husband’s work. The present enrollment is eight, but Dr. Emon expects more par ticipants. The course will prob ably be offered on Wednesday nights from 7-9 p.m. Last year a total of 18 movies pertaining to the field of nuclear engineering were shown. “The discussions will center around topics vital to nuclear engineering but will not include a large amount of mathematics,” Emon continued. “This is basically a discussion course and will not be hard to understand from a technical standpoint,” Emon said. Anyone interested in obtaining details of the course may contact Dr. Emon in Rom 301M, Doherty Petroleum Building.
