Education
To Award
First Ph.D.
The first Ph.D. in education at
Texas A&M will be awarded to
day to Dr. Kamel Moghrabi of
Jordan.
The 34-year-old educator en
rolled at A&M in September,
1964. He received preliminary
degrees at Marquette University
in 1961 and Bradley University
in 1963, also studying at Louisi
ana. State and Georgia Universi
ties.
An experienced teacher in Jor
dan, Moghrabi plans to teach in
the United States a year before
returning to the Southwest
Asian country to pursue his ca
reer.
He was born in Jaffa, Pales
tine. His parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Mohammed U. Moghrabi reside
in Atara of the Ramallah dis
trict.
The English, Arabic, Russian
and German - speaking A&M
graduate’s dissertation is titled
“An Analysis of Factors That
Influence the Degree of Success
or Failure of Foreign Students
at Texas A&M.”
“Dr. Moghrabi’s research will
be useful to A&M and other uni-
versities with international stu
dents,” commented Dr. Paul Hen-
sarling, Department of Educa
tion and Psychology head.
The summer graduate’s work
in the new interdisciplinary
Ph.D. program, requiring at least
half of material covered to be
outside the education area, was
strong in social sciences, noted
Dr. Donald A. Barker, education
professor. Moghrabi’s supporting
work was in economics and man
agement, Barker said.
“He is considered a leader by
other international students,”
Barker added, “and is very out
going and friendly.”
Moghrabi taught algebra at
A&M as a graduate student in
structor. He also had experi
ence as a Jordanian teacher, in
structing all subjects in the up
per elementary grades.
Active in student affairs,
Moghrabi is presently in Mil
waukee to look into a year of
teaching in the U. S. He will re
ceive the Ph.D. in absentia.
