Premiere Players
Set Musical Show
The Premiere Players, a group
of high schools students in Texas
A&M’s Summer Theater Pro
gram, will present a musical va
riety show at 8 p.m. Friday in
the Fallout Theater.
The theme for the show is a
steamboat minstrel, and will
feature several singing groups,
a trumpet solo and a tumbling
act.
The Premiere Players are also
rehearsing for “Curse You, Jack
Dalton,” an old-style melodrama
which will be directed by Debbie
Klein and supervised by Tim E.
Lane.
Under the direction of C. K.
Esten, director of the Aggie Play
ers, the Premiere Players were
formed this summer to give local
high school students an oppor
tunity to participate in theatre
work.
Col. Lee Cited
For Leadership
Col. Raymond C. Lee was cited
for “two years of splendid leader
ship” during a farewell luncheon
Monday for the professor of aero
space studies.
A&M President Earl Rudder
praised the Air Force officer for
“upgrading the AFROTC pro
gram at Texas A&M.”
“Colonel Lee has established
rapport, mutual respect and co
operation between the AFROTC
Staff and the A&M faculty,”
Rudder noted. “His interest in
the academic progress of a stu
dent in his major field of study
as well as AFROTC has greatly
enhanced the university.”
Lee has been reassigned as
vice commander of the 31st Tac
tical Fighter Wing at Homestead
AFB, Fla. The combat-ready
unit is equipped with F-100 air
craft.
The colonel flew fighter mis
sions in World War I and in
Korea and hopes to see action in
Viet Nam.

He came to A&M from the Air
War College’s instructional staff.
A native of Philadelphia, he holds
two degrees from Pennslyvania
State and served as a training
instructor at the Air Force Acad
emy.

Work Began On
Information Center
Work has started on the new
million-dollar information center
at Texas A&M.
Known as the Services Build
ing, the three-story structure is
connected with the A&M Press
and Photo and Visual Aids Lab
oratory.
Campus information agencies
and publication offices including
the student newspaper, yearbook
and magazines will be relocated
in the new building. The Uni
versity post office and labora
tories of the state chemist also
have space in the center.
A&M Information Chief Jim
Lindsey described the facility as
“equal to the best in the nation.”
“The centralization of our staffs
and tools will enhance our serv
ice to the University System and
all news media,” the information
director said.

Orientation Tours
Orientation tours of Cushing
Library begin at Texas A&M
June 30, announced assistant li
brary director John Smith.
Designed to show scope and ar
rangement of library collections,
tours are planned for students
and others who wish to become
more familiar with techniques of
library use. The one-hour tours
will be conducted by heads of
circulation, Richard Puckett; ref
erence, Mrs. Lavelle Castle, and
documents, Joe Walls.
The first tour June 36 is at
3 p.m. A signup sheet for the
monthly feature will be main
tained at the circulation desk.
“Although these tours will be
general in nature, the library will
arrange programs on special
fields for anyone desiring,” Smith
said.
4 Teaching Fields
Added To Curriculum
Texas A&M’s Department of
Education and Psychology has
added four teaching fields at the
secondary school level.
Drama, French, German and
Russian teaching instruction for
secondary teachers may begin
the second summer session, an
nounced Dr. William W. Stokes,
chairman of secondary education.
Approved by the Texas Edu
cation Agency and State Board
of Education, the 24-hour pro
grams include 12 in advance
work. A&M may now prepare
teachers in 21 fields.
“Addition of the programs re
flects the growth of the uni
versity,” noted Dr. Paul Hensarl-
ing, Department of Education and
Psychology head.
A&M Contributes
To Colorado Confab
Two lectures and a chemical
thermodynamic microcards dis
play is being contributed by Tex
as A&M to the 21st Calorimetry
Conference at the University of
Colorado this week.

The Pakistan Students Associ
ation of America chapter at
Texas A&M was selected the
U. S.’s most outstanding at a
recent 13th convention in Madi
son, Wis.
The award, consisting of a
permanent chapter plaque and a
president’s trophy, was presented
four chapter delegates and Mrs.
Robert B. Alexander, wife of the
sponsor, by G. Ahmad, Pakistan
ambassador to the U. S.
Mrs. Alexander was presented
a “Friend of the Year” award for
her efforts in assuring delegates
presence at the conference. She
also serves on the district board
of international affairs of the
Texas Federation of Women’s
Clubs. The incoming Campus
Study Club president and her
husband, a chemistry professor,
lived in Pakistan two years.
The A&M chapter shared the
award with two other universities
in 1961 when it was incepted.
President Muhammed Hussain
said the chapter was quite proud
of its accomplishments.
Club activities reflected by the
award include two donations
totaling $500 to the Pakistan
government’s cyclone relief fund,
a $380 donation to the Pakistan
defense fund, its campus cultural
function attended by 500 U. S.
guests and a dinner celebration
of Eidre Union.
“It was only by the help of
Mrs. Alexander and Mr. (Bob)
Melcher we were able to attend
the convention,” Hussain went on.
Delegates Monawar Ahmed and
Mrs. Bilquis Alam participated in
a convention cultural show. The
fourth delegate was Ashraf Alam.
Permanent Pakistan represen
tative to the United Nations
Amjad Ali Khan attended the
national event.

4-H Barbecue and Trail
Ride Set For Sunday
The eighth annual 4-H barbecue
will be held Sunday at the Fellow
ship Hall on Tabor Road.
Serving will begin at 11:30 and
continue through 1:30 p.m.
Tickets are $1.25 each and may
be purchased from any 4-H mem
ber or adult leader. Tickets will
be sold at the barbecue.
The barbecue is held each year
on the last Sunday in June to
raise money to held support 4-H
activities in Brazos County.
Last year awards included the
dress review, day camp, awards
trip to the Astrodome in Hous
ton, expenses for 4-H horse club
members that participated in the
state horse show and expenses for
six youngsters that attended the
leadership clinic held in Angleton
last year.
A trail rile will be held in con
junction with the barbecue from
Kurten to Fellowship Hall.
An outdoor worship service con
ducted by Rev. Jimmy Hayes, will
be held at 7:30 a.m. at the United
Church of Christ in Kurten and
the ride will started immediately
after the service. All horsemen
are invited to participate.
Soft drinks at rest stops willl
be included in the $1.25 charge fori
the dinner.
