Places 3 Assistants
Three Department of English
graduate assistants have been
placed for next year, Dr. John Q.
Anderson, dapertment head, has
announced.
Daniel D. Mast of 416 Milwau
kee, Bryan, has accepted an as-
sistantship to begin a doctoral
program at the University of
Arizona.
Alan C. Love of 416 Tauber,
College Station, will teach at San
Antonio Junior College.
Gerald V. Ellison, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Foister Ellison, 2411 S.
Buchanan, Amarillo, will teach at
Southwest Missouri State College.
New Member Added
To Police School
Stephen H. Clack, 33, formerly
a Texas Department of Public
Safety instructor in Austin, is a
new member of the Police Train
ing Division here.
Clark’s employment was an
nounced Tuesday by Wallace Bea
sley, coordinator of police train
ing for the Engineering Exten
sion Service.
The new instructor began work
this week. He is teaching in a
police school at Big Spring.
Geology Prof
To Lecture Here
Dr. John C. Harrison, associate
professor of geological sciences at
the University of Colorado, will
lecture here Tuesday.
“Gravity Measurement Off the
Coast of Southern California”
is the topic of his 7:30 p.m. talk
in room 105 of the Geology Build
ing, announced Dr. Davis Fahl-
quist, geology professor.
Hirsch Attends
Concrete Seminar
Dr. T. J. Hirsch, head of struc
tural research in the Texas Trans
portation Institute, presented a
paper on “Prestressed Concrete
Piling” at a seminar in Portland,
Oregon, Wednesday.
The seminar was sponsored by
Oregon representative of the Pre
stressed Concrete Institute.
The paper deals with the sub
ject of dynamic behavior of pil
ing during driving. Hirsch is
supervisor of a research project
on piling behavior which is spon
sored by the Texas Highway De
partment and U. S. Department
of Commerce, Bureau of Public
Roads.

Dr. R. W. Moore of the College
of Veterinary Medicine will parti
cipate in the First International
Conference on Infectious Diseases

Italy.
The veterinarian will present a
paper on new research findings on
equine infectious anemia, or
swamp fever in horses.
Moore’s invitation to the con
ference is in recognition of his
research on infectious anemia.
A&M is the only place in the
world which has developed highly
reliable tests for the disease in
horses.
Student Architects
Return From Trip
A team of graduate urban and
regional planning students from
the School of Architecture return
ed to the classroom this week
after a 10-day tour of Mexico.
Joseph McGraWj director of the
Department of Urban and Re
gional Planning, said students ex
plored the influence of culture on
the formation of Mexico City and
other metropolitan areas of the
country.
The planners helped Mexico
welcome President and Mrs. John
son in Mexico City. They visited
Acapulco, Cuernavaca, Taxco and
Guadalajara.

To Speak Here
At Education Meet
A former newspaperwoman and
radio programmer will represent
the National School Public Rela
tions Association in Texas A&M
conferences for educational ad
ministrators in June.
Dee Preusch, director of profes
sional development for the
NSPRA, has been with the NEA
departments since 1956. She
served as director of publications
for the last six years.
The public relations woman
will take part in the June 13-15
conferences at the Memorial Stu
dent Center, delivering three
addresses and introducing an
other speaker.
Miss Preusch went into weekly
and daily newspaper advertising
and promotion after serving as
principal of a small elementary
school in Kansas^ She has done
radio programming and book pub
lication work, as editorial assist
ant for Prentice-Hall Publishing
Company before joining NSPRA.
She took her bachelor’s degree
at Kansas State University and
studied counseling psychology at
George Washington University.
She is a member of Theta Sig
ma Phi, public relations society
of America, and the Educational
Press Association, and holds hon
orary memberships in Phi Kappa
Phi and Psi Chi.
Miss Preusch will speak to the
Texas School Administrators As
sociation June 14 and will lead
two discussion groups on com
munication services of NSPRA.
As professional development
director of NSPRA, she coordi
nates chapter development and
services, supervises the PR per
sonnel clearinghouse, works with
association state representatives
and education institutions and is
managing editor of publications
circulating a million copies each
year.
