As usual I had great plans of catching up on my lessons dur ing the holidays. As usual, I blew those plans. I did catch up on my back Tee- Vee viewing and can proudly say that after four days of uninter rupted commercials, I have only a few conclusions to make: 1. The tiger is the most over worked beast in the jungle. 2. The soapsuds industry is sick! 3. Marlboro has to be the best of the leading cigarettes because its advertisements were filmed in my home town (where the last of the real, genuine drug store cow boys live). 4. And I think I’m in love with the Dodge Charger—girl. Let me clarify myself. TV has been around for some time now. In fact I can remember when Rick Nelson wore diapers. The people of the world are be ginning to tire of the same old plot and better programs are re sulting, as evidenced in Batman, Beverly Hillbillies, I Love Lucy, etc. Commercials are also having to make the big switch. Some have, and some haven’t. At the head of the most successful advertise ments now is a ferocious pussy cat known as the tiger. This poor critter is no longer that feared beast in the jungle, that dirty cattle killer, or that man-eating cat. Today it is known as the most helpful animal alive. He puts pep in your gas, taste in your-cereal, performance in your car, and grip in your tires. Couldn’t he just take a bite out of someone some time ? Of course everyone knows the Humble tiger campaign. Grrrrrr. Everytime you pull into a Hum ble station there’s this tiger char acter ready to fill up your gas By Herky Killingsworth tank with his tail, give his paw print to a little girl, or shock the heck out of some non-believer. If your car is a Pontiac, then its tiger meet tiger and the mak ings of a fight develop. If you’ve Royal tires then it’s tiger meet tiger meet tiger and fur flies furiously and if the driver has helped himself to Tony the tiger cereal then its • tiger, tiger, etc. and Little Black Sambo has But ter tonight. I know it sounds bad to over use the tiger but in the year of 1966 it is hard to find an animal not in use. Why there is not even a stray fish or two left to name a new product. The snakes are badly being used up and I’ve just had an offer to name some bug “Herky.” Seems they want to start a new line named after Aggies. All in all the animals make for good commercials. Not so for soapsuds. I feel sick every time I see an advertisement with that stupid Knight going around stab bing everyone or that washing machine growing 10 feet tall. I also hate to see kids floating around in bubbles,. neighbors fly? ing in air as if by magic but ac- Engineer Seminar Set For Tuesday A chemical engineering semi nar is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tues day in the geology lecture room.
