Club Slates
Bridge Rally
A Bridge Rally, to determine
the Mid-Texas Championship ’66,
will be run Saturday by the Bra
zos Sports Car Club.
The rally, which will start at
Easterwood Airport at approxi
mately 2 p.m., will be run on a
240-mile course laid out in Bra
zos, Grimes and Burleson coun
ties.
Bill Moore, rally coordinator,
said the event will take approxi- J|||||
mately 6V2 hours to run and will
be run as a day-night affair.
“The first half of the rallie
will be run from about 2-5 p.m.
and the racers will be given about
an hour break, then the night part
will be started,” Moore said.
Approximately 25 participants
are expected from a 250-mile
radius of Bryan-College Station.
Registration for the “biggest ral
ly of the year” will begin at 1
p.m. at Easterwood.
Moore said this rally is one of
the top two in Texas and the
finest for this part of the coun
try.
Trophies will be awarded to the
first three places and to the best
novice team. Moore also said four
other prizes will be awarded to
top drivers and teams.
“Novice teams are welcome to
enter and they should enter be
cause for the last few years the
winner has been a novice,” Moore
noted.
Moore would like the winner of
the novice rally held recently to
either contact him or come by
Easterwood Saturday to pick up
his prize.

Basketball Stars
Texas A&M basketball recruit
ers signed two top prospects from
the Houston area recently.
Forward Mike Heitmann from
Sam Houston High School, 6-4
and 190, with 15.9 point average
for the Tigers during the first
half of the 1965-66 basketball
season, was signed.
He will study veterninary medi
cine at A&M. In his last season
of high school basketball, he had
a 52.3 field goal percentage and
74.8 free throw percentage.
Bill Brown from Ball High
School in Galveston also signed
with the Aggies. Brown was
named the Most Valuable Player
in District 12-4A this season and
made the second team 4-A All
state selection.
Two recent additions to basket
ball coach Shelby Metcalf’s team
are Kilgore Junior College stars
Tom Farrell and Johnny Under
wood.
Farrel, a Junior College All-
American, averaged 29.2 points
per game last season.
Underwood played guard for
the Kilgore Rangers and had a
scoring average of 15 points.
