ity in the Mrs. A&M contest Saturday. Mrs. Cator, from

Plant Sciences To Purchase
Third Electron Microscope
Texas A&M will soon add a
third electron microscope to its
research and teaching facilities.
The newest instrument, to be
purchased with a $28,200 grant
from the National Science Found
ation, will be installed in the De
partment of Plant Science. The
other two are in the Electron
Microscopy Center and the Bio
chemistry and Nutrition Depart
ment.
An electron microscope is a
non-optical device which can view
particles and substances too
small for ordinary scopes. It can
take pictures of viruses and some
of the larger molecules.
Dr. David Rosberg, head of the
Department of Plant Sciences,
said the electron microscope will
be a valuable addition to the de
partment’s research and teaching
activities. It should be especially
useful, he said, in biochemical
genetics studies.
Texas A&M’s annual Agricul
tural Convocation March 22 will
feature the much-discussed slide
picture program, “Murder of
Silence.”
The pictures, produced by the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Depart
ment, are shown on three screens
by three projectors and depict for
45 minutes the past, present and
future of wildlife resources, con
servation and outdoor recreation
in Texas.
William M. Gosdin, director for
the Parks and Wildlife Depart
ment, will present the program.
“This film concerns people and
space,” he said. “Beginning with
the solitude and peace of the
rural countryside, it documents
increasing conflicts, tensions and
congestion of modern urban exist
ence.”
The convocation, which starts
at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Stu
dent Center Ballroom, is spoil'
sored by the Student Agricultural
Council in the College of Agri
culture.
James Supak of Coupland, sen
ior plant and soil sciences major
and council president, said tht
convocation is a social gathering
for faculty, students and anyone
interested in agriculture.
