Honor Roll awards in five population categories will be pre sented by Dr. J. E. Peavy, Com missioner of Health of the Texas State Department of Health. Awards are sponsored by the de partment. The principal banquet address, “Public Relations — A Must,” will be made by Lee D. Herring, vice president of the Grand Prairie State Bank. School registration increased 20 per cent over previous years Monday. The two-division school, usually attended by about 800 water and sewage superintend ents and operators, had signed an additional 255. Registration began Sunday. Instruction involving 181 speak ers, certification examinations and election of 1966 officers will keep school participants busy the remainder of the week. G. R. Herzig Jr., state sanitary engineer and association secre tary, noted A&M is a vital link in certification of water and sew age plant operators. “A&M is a top-level partner in training, through its Civil En gineering Department, the School of Engineering and the Engineer ing Extension Service,” Herzig said. “The Health Department, A&M and various agencies work together to improve technical knowhow.” Examinations will be given to about 100 applicants Wednesday and Friday, said Sam Warring- don, chief engineer of the Opera tors Advisory Programs. The Texas Water Pollution Control Association’s business dinner highlighted Tuesday ac tivity. Speakers were Arthur D. Caster, vice president of the Wa ter Pollution Control Federation of Cincinnati, and Gordon E. Mc- Callum, presidential assistant of Infilco in Tucson. Johnny Cash Fined In Narcotics Case EL PASO 09?) — Singer John ny Cash was fined $1,000 and given a 30-day suspended jail sentence Tuesday on a charge of possessing illegal drugs. Cash pleaded guilty in U. S. District Court after his arrest Oct. 4 as he was leaving El Paso’s airport. Officers said Cash had 668 dexedrine tablets and 475 equanil tablets, which he said he ob tained in Juarez. Prof Named Editor Of Climatology Volume John Griffiths has been named an editor for “World Survey of Climatology,” an encyclopedia to be published in 12 volumes. The associate professor of meteorology has been assigned Africa by editor-in-chief Dr. H. Landsberg, chief climatologist of the U. S. Weather Bureau. Griffiths noted Africa will be treated in one complete volume although it is the second largest continent in the world. A com plete volume will deal with the climates of the Soviet Union with another devoted to the rest of Asia. “This will be the most compre hensive encyclopedia of its kind,” Griffiths commented. In collect ing and editing articles for the 300-page African volume, the London - educated meteorlogist estimated he will be dealing with about a quarter-million words. The A&M professor spent 12 years in Ethiopia, Kenya, Ugan da, Tanganyika, the Rhodesias and South Africa. He received his B.S. degree at Kings College of London in 1947 and the masters degree at Imperial Col lege in 1949. The London-born scientist has published a number of papers and books. Phi Lambda Upsilon Initiation Slated Twelve graduate students and three undergraduates will he hon ored as new members of Phi Lambda Upsilon at a banquet April 16. John B. Beckham, assistant dean of science, said A&M’s Beta Beta Chapter of the honorary chemistry fraternity initiated the new members March 1. A. D. H. Clague, chapter president, con ducted the ceremony. Speaker for the April 16 ban quet will be College of Science Dean Clarence Zener. Officers for 1966-67 will be installed.
