MSC COUNCIL AND DIRECTORATE OFFICERS AT WORK Dave Graham, left, John Rodgers, center, and Steve Gummer discuss and work on MSC projects. Graham is executive vice president of the directorate. Rodgers is the current president of the council and Gummer holds the office of vice president. The Council shall admin ister the social and educa tional affairs of the Center and shall recommend to the appropriate administrative officers the allocation of funds budgeted for social and educational activities. Within College Regulations, the Council shall have the power to govern the activ ities of members, guests, and organizations in the building and may impose penalities for the abuse of privileges. Memorial Student Center Committee: Memorial Stu dent Center Committees shall plan to oversee the programs under their re spective jurisdictions, sub mitting recommendations to the Council and carrying them into effect in coopera tion with the Director and staff. Memorial Student Center Directorate: The Chairmen of Committees shall be formed into a Memorial Student Center Directorate with such purposes, func tions, and procedures as the Council may prescribe in the By-Laws. 14 Active Committees... TRAVEL Frank Bemgen The objective of the MSC Travel Committee is to encourage travel both at home and abroad by acquainting students with existing programs which include participa tion in overseas work, camping with international student groups, living and touring in foreign coun tries, and working for a summer in Europe. The committee also keeps a current file of travel brochures from many sources and travel schedules from international transportation companies which is available for student use. GREAT ISSUES Tom Tyree The Great Issues Committee pre sents five major programs during the school year: Hydro-Space Fiesta-1966, the World Around Us Series, the Speaker Series which includes four distinguished speak ers each year in addition to those presented jointly with SCONA and those planned for the space fiesta, and the discussion series. BRIDGE Gary Carey The Bridge Committee convenes once a week to play bridge, discuss plays and hands, and become ex pert on some of the game’s finer points. Beginners are always wel comed as are those more advanced in the game. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE Robert Beene If a student wants to work with all of the Directorate Committees instead of just one, he joins the Public Relations Committee. Pub lic Relations’ job is to create a favorable image of the MSC — especially MSC committees and events — via good publicity. The committee distributes news of Cen ter programs and works with all of the committees in preparing special brochures. Members are responsible for displays on MSC events and meet once a week with representatives from all 14 com mittees to discuss their plans and problems in the publicity area. CHESS COMMITTEE Fred Crowdus The purpose of the Chess Com mittee is to bring Aggies together who are interested in this fine game of skill and intellect. The members meet once a week and hold the committee open to all stu dents who are interested in the game. LEADERSHIP Wesley Leftwich The MSC Leadership Committee offers the responsible campus leader invaluable opportunities to prepare himself to take an active part in his community. Each year the committee plans and presents a leadership conference which is held the week before school opens in September. To Serve The Interests Of All Students RADIO COMMITTEE Kent Marshall The Radio Committee is com- msed of “ham” operators and ’toer students interested in ama- radio. They also operate a tomogram message service which JJ 1 * send messages free of charge almost any part of the world. SCONA XI Craig- Buck The Student Conference on Na tional Affairs, better known as SCONA, is held annually during the month of December. The long-range goal of SCONA is the promotion of enlightened respon sible citizenship which is fostered by free discussion. SCONA brings together outstanding students from colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Mexico to explore timely national and international issues. CAMERA COMMITTEE Ken Reese Amateur photographers are al ways interested in the Camera Committee which sponsors photo graphy contests, makes f u 1 ly equipped darkrooms available to its members and offers expert in structions in the art of taking good pictures. FLYING KADETS COMMITTEE James Sedberry The Flying Kadets Committee w r as organized for all students on the campus who are interested in flying. Members who do not fly, but who are interested in aero nautics, are welcomed. RECREATION COMMITTEE Richard Rasmussen The Recreation Committee con sists of three sub-committees: Bowling, Billiards, and Table Ten nis. The Bowling Sub-Committee sponsors A&M’s only official bowl ing team and holds many bowling tournaments annually. The Bil liards Sub-Committee promotes an interest in the billiard game of straight and 3-Cushion Carom which are the games played at the Association of College Unions Tourneys. The Table Tennis Sub- Committee sponsors member com petition in the Association of Col lege Unions Tourneys and wel comes all students who are in terested in the game. TALENT Pete Belinsky The Talent Committee presents two major programs each year which give the students a chance to display their talents or acts as stage hands, set designers, pro ducers, and promoters. For the first show each year, committee members select outstanding A&M student numbers which they pre sent to the student body in De cember—Its known as the Aggie Talent Show or ATS. CONTEMPORARY ARTS COMMITTEE Richard Dooley Culture is the by-word for the Contemporary Arts Committee. Good books, good music, good art, and good lectures — that’s what Contemporary Arts is all about. The committee provides a series of lectures and discussions primari ly in the fields of literature and music with speakers drawn from the University faculty and the sur rounding area. It is also responsi ble for maintaining all the services available in the Browsing Library and Music Listening Rooms. This includes a small library, current newspapers from all over the Unit ed States, a wide variety of maga zines, and a record lending library. Record albums of every kind are available for enjoyment and moments of relaxation in one of the listening rooms.
