The appearance of Lt. Col. John A. Powers offers a rare opportunity for a close-up of the first stages of the national effort to send a man to the moon. “Shorty” Powers was there when the United States launched its program and since has followed the space advances with this funda mental knowledge. The world remembers his dramatic account of American history-making thrusts into outer space; his voice is recognized around the globe. An expert in the space field, Powers has gained a national reputation as a speaker. Weaving humor through his scientific yet simple presentation, he captures the avid attention of banquet audiences everywhere. Faculty, staff and students, especially those teaching and studying the space subjects, should find Powers a source of new knowledge as well as entertainment. The Chamber of Commerce which helps the Univer sity in so many ways deserves your support at the annual membership meeting. Purchase of a ticket to the unusual program is a small enough expression for the day-by-day chamber work in the interest of the University. “I’d rather postpone the discussion of that topic—it hasn’t been covered on a quiz yet!” Bulletin Board THURSDAY El Paso Hometown Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Ander son Room of the YMCA.
