A United States Air Force
Academy cadet was impressed
with the Corps of Cadets review
presented Thursday afternoon for
the eleventh Student Conference
on National Affairs.
Duane C. Tway, senior in the
Colorado Spring's service acad
emy, said Texas A&M reviews are
presented almost the same as at
the academy.
“Very sharp,” Tway comment
ed on the way the A&M cadets
marched. “I like the way they
turn and do their steps.”
The only difference the son of
an Air Force officer saw in the
patterns used to present a review
at the academy and here is the
way outfits march to the parade
grounds.

“At the academy the outfits
form ‘on line’ and then proceed
to the parade grounds,” he said.
“I noticed that here each outfit
marches individually to the pa
rade grounds, instead of all form
ing somewhere else and then
going to the review.”
All other procedures are the
same, but he explained the Naval
Academy does the officers’ center
different.
“At Annapolis, the cadets
salute the ranking officer, instead
of the reviewing officer,” Tway
explained.
Tway, who has always lived
in the Air Force and plans to
make the service a career, thinks
SCONA is a good thing.
“It gives students a student’s
view on the problems of the na
tion and the world,” the cadet
said. “I am amazed at the way
all the delegates are so open-
minded in discussing Southeast
Asia problems.”
The SCONA delegate, whose
father is presently in the diplo
matic service in Algeria, was
selected by his international af
fairs professor to attend the stu
dent conference.
The Air Force cadet thought
the Aggie Band was great in the
review.
“It must take something to
train freshmen as fast as they do.
Their quick, choppy steps during
turns is excellent,” he said.

‘The Aggie Hour 9
Tom And Jerry Show
Features Music, Comment
By JOE LEMMING
Staff Writer
Combining popular music, ad
libbing, numerous slips of the
tongue and genuine humor, radio
station KORA’s “Aggie Hour”
is serving as a student mouth
piece here.
A couple of industrious Aggies,
Jerry Cooper, senior, and Tom
Morgan, a junior, are the an
nouncers.
Cooper and Morgan run the
entire operation: They sell ad
vertisements to finance the opera
tion and choose records to be
played on the program heard at
10:10 p.m. on Tuesdays and
Thursdays.
The Aggie Hour was revita
lized last spring by Cooper and
Bob Bell, after a three year ab
sence. Bell graduated last se
mester and is now employed at
the station.
Although the show outwardly
appears to be of a totally light
hearted nature, Cooper explains
the program serves “to let peo
ple know about the good things
happening on campus.”
Throughout the year, the boys
have based their programs
around events and controversies
on campus. An outsider finds
the humorous as well as serious
aspects of Aggie life revealed
on the 50 minute presentation.
“The Aggie Hour is dead with
out knowledge of what’s going
on,” Cooper reports. During the
Johnny Cash controversy, Tom
and Jerry inserted several re
marks reflecting the general at
titude of the Aggies toward the
incident.
“I think we should get Billy
Graham for Town Hall,” Morgan
joked, “to help promote a good
clean Christian atmosphere.”
After the program the boys
feared that some people might
take offense at the remark.
Cooper said they had no way
of knowing the popularity of
the program, but added, “When
we make a mistake, everyone
sure lets us know about it.”
The Aggie Hour is presented
practically off-the-cuff. Lack of
rehearsal makes the program
more humorous, although some
times the boys scramble their
words.
Concerning Shaffer’s Book
Store nightgowns known as Sug
ar Sacks, Morgan mistakenly
said,” Let Shaffer’s put your girl
in a Sugar Shack, er Sugar
Sack.”
“We gobble things every now
and then,” he laughed.
The boys biggest headache has
been the red light indicating
“on the air.” Occasionally things
are said that aren’t meant to be.
During a record, the student
announcers were discussing Viet
Nam while they were off the air.
Unaware that the music ceased
and the redlight was on, Morgan
blurted out, “But I don’t want
to die in a rice patty!”
The embarrassed Aggie said
he had quite a time living that
one down.
Once when Aggie yell leader
Darrel Smith substituted for
Morgan, he remarked after Jerry
had trouble doing a commercial,
“You’re awful dumb for a kid,
Jerry.”
Because the program is speci
fically for Aggies, Cooper says
they try to play music that A&M
students will enjoy.
“We appeal to the Aggie sex
drive with April Stevens rec
ords,” he grins.
Mike Mistovich, president of
KORA, has been instrumental in
making the student program pos
sible. He donated the time for
the Aggie Hour without the re
quirements that advertisements
be sold. Consequently, the ads
sold help the boys earn part of
their college expenses.
