THE BATTALION Wednesday, December 8, 1965 College Station, Texas Page 3 For Thursday Election Freshmen Candidates Urge Support Editor, The Battalion: In campaigning as a candidate for vice president of the freshman class, I feel that some of my qua lifications should be known. In high school I was a nominee for all school favorite and class fav orite and I have had experience on the student council. I was an active member in several clubs and organizations like the Na tional Honor Society and the FFA where I was secretary, vice pres ident and president, thus giving me the vital experience necessary to successfully fill the office for which I am running. As an Ag gie (a true one!) I proved my worth by working from start to finish on the Bonfire as a fighter in the volunteer outfit “F” Troop. My name is Goode, so remember it and mark it on the ballot Thursday for freshman vice pres ident. Richard L. Goode * * * # Editor, The Battalion: “Howdy, fish Johnson is my name.” If you haven’t heard this yet, you will soon. It’s one of my goals to meet and get the opin ions of every freshman at A&M. This means more than just a vote, because it is only informed of ficers that can do the most for the Class of ’69. How can we have a really fabulous Fish Ball or anything else unless the of ficers know what the freshmen want and use their ideas ? How can we achieve the things that will make the Class of ’69 the best A&'M has known if it isn’t brought together by interested officers that won’t give up until our class is the best. I am sure of the many respon sibilities of the freshman vice president and I honestly know I can do more than just fill the office. I have held offices in many clubs and organizations be fore and vice president in sever al. I know the time that must be given and the true interest you must have in a group before you can make it something that will long be remembered. I have the experience, interest and deter mination. Will you let me use it? Red Johnson * * * * Editor, The Battalion: This letter concerns the Fresh man Class of 1969 electing the vice president of their choice. It is impossible for each freshman to know all of the candidates per sonally and vice versa in such a short period of time. I, Harvey Cooper, would like to explain to you, the freshmen, why I feel that I am the most qualified to fulfill the office of vice pres ident for the Class of ’69. In high school, I have held num erous offices of clubs for which I was a participant. I was trea surer of the Latin Club, vice president of Teen Against Com munism, and president of the Vigilanties. I was also a member of the Youth for Christ and Thes pian Clubs. Outside of school, I was recreation chairman and vice president of the Methodist Youth Foundation (MYF), I was also a member of the 4-H and active in the DeMolay’s for three years. On various occasions I have serv ed as chairman and vice chairman of special committees. Here at Texas A&M I am a member of the Pre-Vet Society and the Rodeo Club. I feel that the freshmen have enough spirit that their goal will be unlimited. With your support, I will try to make these goals possible. I will work for the class to the best of my ability. In doing so, I hope to meet and work with each of you person ally so that it ■will be possible for us to know each other better. Remember that the class of '69 is the best class Texas A&M will ever produce and I would be honored to serve as its vice president. Harvey Cooper * * * * Editor, The Battalion: Thrusday the Freshman Class will take its first step in the political life of Texas A&M. To some, the fish elections may seem unimportant, but to me the elec tion of vice president could be the most important event of my freshman year. The vice presi dent is a representative of his class and must lead and assume its responsibilities. I have the desire and determination to rep resent the class of 1969 well, and to serve it in any position. The student government repre sents the student body and its effectiveness is only as good as its representatives. I feel that active and interested participa tion in the student government can produce beneficial accomp lishments. I strongly encourage every freshman to vote Dec. 9 for the candidate best suited for the office of vice president. James P. Bartlett * * * * Editor, The Battalion: I am seeking the office of vice president of the Class of ’69. The duties of this office are few, but at the same time important. The person who seeks this office must be willing to give both time and hard work for his class; I am willing to give both. In high school I was a member of the student council for four years and served my last year as its president. I also played sports while in high school. I mention these things only as qualifications for the office I am seeking. The only thing I have to offer is my desire and willingness to work hard for the Class of ’69 and do my part in making it the best class ever. David J. Dollinger * * * * Editor, The Battalion: Why am I running for secre tary-treasurer? It’s a good ques tion and should be answered by all candidates. In my case there are many reasons. Even as a young boy I wanted to become an Aggie. Throughout my junior and senior high school, this desire grew. Such things as Yell Prac tice and the burning of our bon fire has given me a deep loyalty to A&M and a desire to serve it. This desire for service has brought about my candidacy for secretary-treasurer. I feel I am qualified to represent our Class of ’69 in this position. I was secretary - treasurer of my church’s youth group and ac quired knowledge of student gov ernment by serving in the student council and executive board. Like the average high school student, I participated in extra-curricular activities ranging from the Red Cross to the swimming team. I am now serving as fish treas urer for the Duncan Area Delta Y. I, like many fish buddies, attended fish Y camp. This has given me a fuller understanding of A&M and has already helped me in the duties of treasurer in the Delta Y. Your support will be greatly appreciated and your vote for me would be a vote for the person who is set on making the Class of ’69 the best ever. Reno Bourn * * * IP Editor, The Battalion: In the coming freshman elec tion it should be almost taken for granted that the candidates have certain qualifications. I have filed for the office of secretary-treas urer and have probably about the same qualifications as the other candidates. I have served on stu dent councils, committees and offices. Since the qualifications of the candidates are about the same, their differences must be in their goals for our class and in the amount of work each per son is willing to put into his office. I believe that our class has the potential of being one of the best ever to graduate from A&M and I am willing to con tribute 150 per cent effort to help organize and aid the Class of ’69. Mack Frazier * * • * Editor, The Battalion: This Thursday will be the first election for the A&M Class of '69. I would like to urge all of you not to let that day pass with out voting. I am Bill Walther and am a candidate for social secretary. I have been in the Key Club, DeMolay, and other or ganizations in high school. I also attended Fish Camp this i New AFTER SHAVE COLOGNE $5.00 Aerosol DEODORANT FOR MEN $3.00 New AFTER SHAVE COLOGNE $5.00 Aerosol DEODORANT FOR MEN $3.00 Originated by Frances Denny summer. Social secretary is the office which plans the social af fairs for our class. I am major ing in architecture and feel that this could be of some aid in plan ning events if I am elected. If I am elected I would like very much for any of you having ideas for future social functions to get in touch with me. Don’t forget to vote Thursday and let's make this the best fish class ever. Bill Walther * * * * Editor, The Battalion: My name is Jim Wofford and I’m running for the position of social secretary of the Class of ’69. It is my desire to obtain this office to better improve the social functions of our class. I feel qualified to hold this office, hav ing been a member of the execu tive committee for my high school’s student council. I held a position of leadership in my graduating class, also. With these accomplishments I ask you to vote for me Thursday so I can work for you, the Class of ’69, to the fullest of my enthusiasm for the betterment of our class. I would greatly appreciate any consideration you will give my name on the ballot for social secretary. Jim Wofford * * * * Editor, The Battalion: When you pick our social secre tary you are picking the person who will be in charge of all social events of the Fish class. Whether these events are a big success or just mediocre is dependent mainly on this one student. For a student to hold this office he should understand his duties, be able to coordinate the commit tees, accept suggestions, be a hard worker, and get along with his fellow students. The stronger these qualities are the more suc cessful this year will be as far as social events are concerned. I believe that I have these qualities and if you elect me I promise that I will do the best possible job. Max M. Stratton II 'k 'k 'k Editor, The Battalion: I am a candidate for the office of Social Secretary for the Class of ’69. I am from San Antonio taking Pre-Med. During the last three years in high school I have had experience in class leadership. I will ap preciate all the support given me by the rest of the freshmen class. Richard Newman * * * * Editor, The Battalion: I am a candidate for fresman representative in the Student Sen ate, and would like to list here some of my qualifications for the office: I was appointed delegate to the 1964 American Legion Boys State, a student government session, where I was elected railroad com missioner. While at San Angelo Central High School, I served as student council reporter, co-editor of the newspaper, member of the debate team, and three-year officer of Key Club. I am presently a member of SCONA, in which I am serving as a member of the publicity committee. I feel I am qualified scholastically, hav ing posted a 1.94 grade point ratio at mid-semester as a mem ber of the Honors section. The office of Student Senate representative calls for leader ship experience. I believe I am qualified to give effective repre sentation, and if I am elected I will use that experience for the benefit of the freshman class. John W. Fuller * * * * Editor, The Battalion: I hereby announce my candi dacy for senator from the Fresh man Class. My qualifications for this post are as follows: Valedictorian of Stephen F. Austin High School (Port Arth ur). President of the junior class. Speaker of the house of the student council. Chairman of a National Honor Society committee to instruct of ficers of school organizations in parliamentary procedure. The improvement of Texas A&M University and of student life will be my guide if elected. I would appreciate your vote and support. John C. Ablshier * * * * Editor, The Battalion: I wish to take this opportunity to ask the Class of '69 to elect me to the Student Senate as their representative. I was bom and raised in Bedias and attended high school in Ma- disonville. I am majoring in aerospace engineering. I believe that my past exper ience in school, church, and other organizations will help me to per form the duties that will be re quired of a student senator. Some of my activities in school were president of the student council, captain of the football team, and vice president of the National Honor Society. I was also active in church work and in the 4-H Club. This semester I am serving as food chairman for the Sbisa area Delta Y Club. If I am elected I will do my best to represent the interest of the Class of '69 in the Student Senate. Larry B. McWhorter * * * ip Editor. The Battalion: My name is Fish Adair and I am running for the office of fish representative to the Student Senate. I would like to discuss three things. First, a little about myself personally. Second, why I feel I am qualified for the posi tion, and last, my ideas on its functions and responsibilities. I am from Riverside, Calif., and my major is preparatory medi cine. Since my father is an offi cer in the Air Force, I have lived and traveled in many parts of the world. I came to A&M mainly because of its military program and traditions. In high school I held a variety of offices and I had several re sponsibilities. I was active in student senate. Key Club and the school Chamber of Com merce. I laso participated in an office in DeMolay. So much for the past. The present and future are what is important. All of us fish are members of two of the largest fraternities in the world, that of the Class of ’69, and the larger, more inclusive one of being an Aggie. It is the express job of the fish representative to repre- (Continued on Page 4) Be A Tiger-Shop At Lou’s and receive cash on your purchases this Christmas.
