RAIN GUAGE
Mrs. Lydia Blaha receives some pertinent information
from Dr. R. A. Clark of Texas A&M’s Department of
Meteorology about the rain guage that was recently placed
in the Blahas’ yard in northwest corner of Burleson County.
The guages were located all over Yegua River drainage
basin to check the feasibility of forcasting flooding by
electronic surveillance.

YMCA Will Wrap
Yuletide Packages
In preparation for the Christ
man season J. Gordon Gay, YMCA
general secretary, has brought
five rolls — 2500 feet — of
wrapping paper, which “volun
teer helpers” will use to wrap
A&M students’ Christmas pack
ages.
The YMCA has continued this
service each year since beginning
it in 1943. Gay says that last
year they wrapped 543 packages.
He adds that students may
bring their gifts to the “Y”’ now
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Students
should bring them as early as
possible because of the rush,”
states Gay,” and not wait until
the last minute.”
Carrying out a 50-year-old
tradition, groups of Corps fresh
men will sing carols throughout
the campus Dec. 13-18. Gay says
that students used to come to the
“Y” looking for carol books, so,
five years ago, he printed some.
He states that they have a
certain number of books for each
outfit and prefers that a fresh
man from each group pick them
up. SCON A delegates and
church groups will also receive
books.
In addition, the YMCA has
prepared “Christmas Medita
tions” booklets and is distribut
ing them in all dorm lounges,
the Memorial Student Center, the
YMCA and the Exchange Store.
Gay asks that only those interest
ed take one of the booklets, which
contain meditations for each day
Dec. 13-31.
Freshmen YMCA members
Paul Gundersen from Illinois and
Leon Willhite from Palestine will
exhibit a display with a “dif
ferent” theme — “Christmas in
Viet Nam” — in a showcase at
the MSC. Other members are
working on programs for needy
families.
Mrs. T. J. Kozik, acting chair
man of the International Hos
pitality Committee, says that
A&M foreign students will at
tend a New Year’s Eve dinner at
the YMCA, based “strictly on
contributions” by faculty and
staff members and local citizens.

Aggies Urged
To Remember
Needy Groups
Aggie student organizations
are reminded by Bennie A. Zinn,
director of student affairs, to
remember the needy at Christ
mas.
In the past many Cadet units
and Civilian Dormitory units and
some wives clubs have provided
clothing, food, and toys at
Christmastime from a list pro
vided by the YMCA office.
“Units who wish to participate
in this worthwhile project are
urged to call at once to select
a family at the YMCA office,”
said Zinn.
