AGGIE JOKE-
Bevo’s fans from the University of Texas found themselves
recently on the receiving end of an “Aggie Joke.” A group
of Sweetwater Aggies rose early and erected the above
“display” on the east side of the courthouse square, in plain
sight for public viewing. The sign above the skull and hide
-IN REVERSE
reads: “Here Lies Bevo, Poor Ole Soul—No. 1 Pick For
The Toilet Bowl.” Just in case the origin of the sign was
questioned, it was aptly signed “Gig 'Em.” (Photo from the

600 Gallons Of Diesel Fuel
To Ignite ‘Hot’ Bonfire
Aggies like their bonfires hot.
The Firemen’s Training Divi
sion of the Texas A&M Engineer
ing Extension Service, charged
with fueling the annual bonfire,
hopes to make Wednesday’s bon
fire the hottest in history.
“We plan to pump or spray 400
to 600 gallons of diesel fuel, or
whatever amount is necessary, to
give ’em the hottest blaze,’’ com
mented John Rauch of the FTS.
Rauch explained the FTS op
eration :
“We ran a three-quarter inch
pipe line underground from the
street and attached it 22 feet up
the center pole to pump the fuel
inside the stack.
“Wednesday, about 4 p.m., as
soon as all the logs are in place,
we will spray 400 gallons of
diesel and 200 more gallons on
the stack about 30 minutes before
it is put to the torch.”
When the firemen begin fuel
ing the stack, the Corps of Cadets
will form a human security chain
around the 75-foot-high pyre.
Aiding Rauch in the project are,
FTS instructors Tom Robinson,
Paul Williams, Jim Bland and
W. B. Dorman, plus Leonard
Bishop of the Petroleum Engi
neering Department and Harold
Sorensen, a student instructor for
FTS.
When yell leaders hurl torches
to trigger the blaze at 7:30 p.m.,
the result should be an awesome
holocaust, symbolizing the “burn
ing desire of every Aggie to beat
Texas in the Thanksgiving day
football game.”
