Radios To Track Deer
Developed At A&M
An electronics deer tracking
project of Texas A<5fM’s Wildlife
Science Department has received
$22,000 in research renewals for
1965-66.
Jack Inglis, instructor in wild
life management and director of
the study, said renewals include
$10,000 from the Welder Wildlife
Foundation, $6,000 from Texas
Parks and Wildlife Department,
and $6,000 from the Agricultur
al Experiment Station.
The project has been in pro
gress for about two years at the
Welder Wildlife refuge near Sin-
ton. Goal of the research is to
find additional information about
deer.
“We mounted six transmitters
on deer this summer and know
their pitfalls now,’’ he added.
“The new transmitters are much
improved.”
Researchers use a “capture
gun” with nicotene salycilate bul
lets to immobilize deer for at
tachment of collars and color
tags on ears. In winter, door-drop
traps are used.

Wayne Dunlap, assistant pro-
fessor of civil engineering, start

did it out of his own pocket. But
he doesn’t have to pay for it
