I | To Ag Experiment Station | Five grants for $14,382 have been made available to the Ag ricultural Experiment Station, Dr. R. E. Patterson, station di rector, has announced. Largest of the grants of $6,- 900 from Hoffman-Taff, Inc., of Springsfield, Mo., to support studies on effects of feed addi tives in growing rations for lay ing chickens and turkeys. Plains Cotton Growers, Inc., of Lubbock has provided $3,282 for boll weevil research work. A $2,489 grant is from the Herman Frasch Foundation of New York for work on chemis try of poisonous range plants. Hercules Powder Company has made $1,471 available for in stallation of a bi-fluid system on an airplane for research on aerial application of oil emulsion sprays. Maria project with Abdelmajid Gara, director of the Tunisia Agricultural Education Depart ment, and with the American staff in Chott Maria. Chott Maria Agricultural Col lege is a land grant type of school near Sousse, Tunisia. In 1966-67 there will be 53 fellowships available to Ameri can women for doctoral or post doctoral study. The applications deadline is Dec. 1. There are three groupings of AAUW fellowships. The “Fel lowships for American Women” consist of 50 fellowships from $3,000 to $5,000 that are open to women who are U. S. citizens and are unrestricted as to age, place of research and subject. Awards are not made in the creative or performing arts. Ap plicants must hold the doctorate or equivalent or must have ful filled all doctoral requirements except the dissertation. The three “Fellowships in the Natural Sciences” consists of the following post-doctoral stipends of $5,000. The Marie Curie Fel lowship in radiology, physics, or chemistry, is open to women of France or the U.S.A. The Sarah Berliner Fellowship is open to women of any country for study in physics, chemistry, or biology. The Ida H. Hyde Fellowship in euthenics or eugenics is open to all women. There are also a large number of AAUW “International Fel lowships” which are open to women of any country other than the U. S., for graduate study or research in the U. S. At present the AAUW has 19 endowed international fellow ships and about 40 unendowed in ternational fellowships per year. Applicants must possess English fluency, B.A. degree or equiva lent, a good plan of study or re search which has social signi ficance, and the intention to re turn to her own country to pro vide constructive leadership. The deadline for these completed ap plication is also Dec. 1, 1965. Mrs. W. L. Russell noted that the AAUW Fellowships Program began back in 1888 with a modest award of $350.
