National 4-H Club Week Set Texas’ 87,000 4-H Club mem bers will join other 4-H’ers throughout the nation in the ob servance of National 4-H Week, Saturday through Oct. 2, reports R. L. Hunt Jr., assistant state 4- H leader at Texas A&M. Hunt notes that some 2,250,000 boys and girls in the 50 states and Puerto Rico are 4-H mem bers; that they range in age from 10 to 19; that they live in both rural and urban areas and that each conducts one or more pro jects involving personal responsi bilities and “learning to do by doing.” Along with their project or demonstration work, 4-H training also emphasizes the de velopment of leadership and citi zenship talents. Theme for the upcoming week will be “Learning for Living.” The 4-H members will be joined in the observance by their jun ior and adult 4-H leaders, their friends and Extension workers. The “head — heart — hands — health” organization is supervised in the counties by the county Ex tension agents and is the junior phase of the Cooperation Exten sion Service’s educational pro grams. Objectives of the week are to influence more young people to join or form 4-H Clubs; to ac quaint more parents with 4-H and seek their cooperation; to encourage a larger number of capable men and women to be come volunteer 4-H leaders; to increase public understanding of 4-H programs and activities; and to recognize and express appre ciation for the contributions made to 4-H by friends and those who give support to the organi zation.
