    ntramurals Are Rolling Again
THE BATTALION
Thursday, August 5, 1965 College Station, Texas Page 7
By BOB PALMER
The first week of intramurals
'or the second summer session
it A&M finished Tuesday with
ill the teams performing at least
jnce.
The softball competition, di-
rided into two leagues, has 11
oams playing. The number of
jf teams playing remains the
lame as last semester, but three
lew teams have joined while
the two Vet teams and the one
:rom Henderson Hall have with
drawn.
League A is comprised of the
teams from Dorm 21, along with
those from Walton Hall, the Bio
Chems, College View, and the
Chemistry majors.
League B’s six teams come
from Dorms 20, 19, 22, and 15;
Hensel Hall and the PE majors.
Charles Shaw, who umpires
the games, saw the action shap
ing up this way: “League A
I expect to be a hot race down
to the finish, but league B should
be competition between Dorm 19
and the PE majors.”
The competition in bowling has
more teams active this semester
than last.
Those represented in Bowling
are Dorms 20, 19, 15, 22, and
21, along with Walton Hall and
the Bio Chems.
More interest has also been
shown in Golf this term. Two
tournaments are being car
ried out, a singles match and a
doubles. Nineteen golfers are in
the singles and 11 in the doubles.
The organizers of the teams in
each dorm or organization are:
Steve Pedigo, 15; Rich Grossen-
bacher, 19; Don Simmons, 20;

Coach Don Watson
Don Watson, a diminutive half
back who specialized in speed
during his collegiate playing days
at A&M, coaches the quarter
backs on the Aggie staff headed
by Gene Stallings.
Watson was born in McAllen,
Texas, but played his high school
sports at Franklin, Texas, where
he won all-state honors.
He was one of the famed
“Junction Boys” under coach
Paul Bryant and won football
letters in 1954-55-56.
Watson won National Back-of-
the-Week honors, was honorable
mention All - American, and
played in the Blue-Gray game in
1956.
His first coaching job was at
Virginia Tech where he was an
assistant for three years. Then
he moved to the University of
Houston for a two-year stint,
worked one year at Tulane Uni
versity, and for the past two
seasons he was offensive coach
at South Carolina.
In announcing the hiring of
Watson, Stallings said: “In my
opinion, Don Watson has a very
excellent football mind’ and is
very dedicated in his work. His
work in several different phases
of coaching will make him even
more valuable.”
Watson said, “I feel this is a
great challenge to return to Ag-
gieland on Coach Stallings’ staff.
I am dedicated to working for
him and A&M’s football program,
and I’m just tickled to be back
at my old school.”
Watson’s big game for the
Aggies came in his junior sea-
at TCU as the Aggies posted
a 19-16 victory. The little (5’-
10”, 155) speed merchant caught
one touchdown pass and scored
the winning TD on a 51-yard
broken-field scamper.
Watson is married to the for
mer Boots Berry of Sinton, Tex
as. They have two children; a
daughter, Kelly Lee, 6, and a son,
Bobby Don, 4.
