arrived Wednesday at Texas
A&M’s three-day Right of Way
Educational Refresher Seminar.
Speeches and workshop sessions
are scheduled.
Attending are right of way per
sonnel from oil and gas com
panies, highway departments and
other governmental agencies, uti
lity firms and real estate ap
praisers.
Sponsoring the seminar are
Region 2 of the American Right
of Way Association and the Tex
as Transportation Institute of
A&M.
C. V. Wootan of TTI is seminar
director. The chairman of Region
2 is Glen F. Graves, right of way
superintendent of Truckline Gas
Co., Houston.
Technical matters such as en
gineering concepts for right of
way, legal aspects and public re
lations for right of way person
nel are to be considered during
the seminar.

Wins Appointment
A Texas A&M doctoral can
didate, James J. O’Brien, has
been chosen as one of the first
post-doctoral fellows at the Na
tional Center for Atmospheric
Research, Boulder, Colo. The
advanced study group of the na
tional center (NCAR) chose O’
Brien and others for one-year ap
pointments.
O’Brien is a doctoral candidate
in the A&M Department of
Oceanography and Meteorology.
He expects to complete his de
gree by January, 1966, and join
NCAR in February.

To Make Survey
Texas A&M Housing office
staff members will conduct a
housing survey during August
to determine the availability of
off-campus living quarters for
the Fall semester.
The survey, to be conducted by
phone, will provide listings of
furnished and unfurnished apart
ments and houses, and rooms for
permanent and weekend rentals.
Listings are available to stu
dents and staff members in the
housing office, located in the
basement of the YMCA.
Special needs are for houses
and apartments for single grad
uate women students and for un
dergraduate women in the College
of Veterinary Medicine, the
Housing Office noted.

der Professor Robert O. Reid
and has published papers on sta
tistics and micrometeorology. His
dissertation is titled “A Study
of Upwelling and Mixing in A
Two Layer Ocean Induced by An
Axially - Symmetric Stationary
Hurricane.”
The son of Mr. and Mrs.
M. J. O’Brien of 144 Walnut
St., Dunellen, N. J., he completed
undergraduate studies in 1957
at the Mens College of Rutgers
University.
He received the MS degree in
meteorology at A&M last year.
O’Brien holds a National Aero
nautics and Space Administration
traineeship. He has served on
the Graduate Students Council
for two years.
Mr. and Mrs. O’Brien and their
two children reside at A-8-A Col
lege View in College Station.

Texas A&M hosted 8,960 visi
tors during June and July, P. L.
(Pinkey) Downs Jr., official
greeter for the university, an
nounced.
During the last week Downs
welcomed the millionth visitor
to Aggieland since he became
official greeter 16 years and two
months ago.
The total for that period
reached 1,000,973 visitors before
the week was over. Thirteen dif
ferent groups visited the campus
in July, the largest being the Tex
as Firemen’s Training School.
Downs estimated the visitors
during his tenure spent $21,020,-
433 in the community.
