English Lecture Heads Calendar
Public lectures by three well-
known English professors are
scheduled to begin next week for
Texas A&M’s English Institute.
About 45 teachers are here for
the 8-week program sponsored
under the National Defense Edu
cation Act.
Dr. David J. DeLaura of the
University of Texas is to speak
at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Assembly
Room of the Memorial Student
Center. Director of freshman
English at U. of T., Dr. DeLaura
will discuss problems and tech
niques of teaching high school
students to write better.
Dr. Ralph B. Long of the Uni
versity of Puerto Rico will lecture
on July 8. Dr. Martin S. Day,
University of Houston, speaks
July 15.

the program for educational de
velopment of high school teachers
participating in the Institute,”
A&M Professor J. S. Jernigan,

four states, are taking advanced
studies in composition, the Eng
lish language and literature.

mer Lecture. Loyd is A&M’s co
ordinator of NSF programs.
Dr. Snider is a staff scientist
in the Division of Space Sciences,
Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasa
dena, Calif. He was involved in
the Mariner II Venus flyby proj
ect and the current Mariner IV
spacecraft now nearing Mars.
His special interest is solar
plasma. With the Mariner II he
made the first detailed, prolonged
measurements of the flux and
energy spectrum of solar wind.

Engineers will have its annual
barbecue Thursday at the Brazos
County A&M Club.
Wives of the chapter members
are invited to attend the meeting
