THE BATTALION Page 4 College Station, Texas Friday, February 12, 1965 A&M Roundballers Clash With Bears In Waco Saturday A&M’s embattled cagers begin the second lap of the Southwest Conference race Saturday night when they take on the Baylor Bears in Waco. Unless the unforeseen occurs, the Aggies will be playing a spoiler role in this and ensuing confer ence contests this season. Two straight home setbacks to Texas Tech and Texas have left the Cadets with a 3-4 league record and virtual elimination from title consideration. The Bears own a 4-3 slate and can scarcely afford another loss. The last three blemishes on the Maroon record have all been nar row ones. Baylor scored an 80-77 success, Texas triumphed, 65-63, and Tech registered an 82-76 over time victory. The Bruins have also experienced some tight clashes in recent com petition. They edged TCU, 87-85, Saturday and then became a 76-74 victim of SMU Tuesday night. Baylor has utilized a run-and- shoot offense in racing to their finest season in years. Bill Mene- fee’s Bears have registered over a 100 points several times and last week managed to fill the Heart O’ Texas Coliseum for the first time since Menefee took ove rthe Baptist reins. The Bears will probably start a trio of 6-6 performers. Darrell Hardy, Spencer Carlson, and Win ston Moore are likely to get the starting nod. Guards Ed Horne and Tommy Hatfield will complete the starting lineup. The Wacoans are noted for their well-balanced scoring and Texarkana Juco Drops 2 Sports TEXARKANA, Tex. Beasley is the leading A&M scorer with a 21.5 mean average. Timmins is scoring at a 13.2 clip, and Norman owns a 13.1 mean. Timmerman and Rector own 5.1 and 3.5 averages respectively. In a preliminary, the A&M and Baylor freshman squads will hook up for the second time this year. The Fish dropped an earlier 83-68 decision to the Cubs. Since then Jim Culpepper’s crew has trimmed three conference opponents in a row. In other weekend conference action, TCU plays Arkansas in Fayetteville, Rice journeys to Austin to play Texas, and SMU hosts Texas Tech. 8 Schoolboy Gridders Sign With Aggies A&M football coach Gene Stallings has not yet announced the names of any high school grid signees.
