Page 8 College Station, Texas Thursday, January 21, 1965 THE BATTALION Bill Hancock Named Top College Athlete Bill Hancock, former three time All-Southwest Conference Aggie ca.tcher, has been named Ark-La- Tex College Athlete of the Year by the Shreveport Journal. During the 1964 season he bat ted .299 for the Ags and led the conference in runs batted in. He was also named to the College All- American team. Hancock first came to A&M as a third baseman. He batted .260 his freshman year and sparked the Fish to a SWC championship. He led the loop in batting with .447 as a sophomore. As a junior he batted. .325 and won the league home run crown. He switched to catcher his senior year. The honoree was the first A&M athlete to be awarded the Wally Moon Trophy, taking the award his sophomore year a the most improved athlete on the College Station campus. Hancock said his biggest base ball thrill came when the Aggies clinched the SWC championship by downing Texas last spring.
