They will already be starting their second trimester, having finished the first one Dec. 18. This is only one of the reasons the faculty and administration of the College of Veterinary Medicine are encouraged with the progress of the new trimester system in troduced this fall. “We feel the trimester program will work out fine. Of course, it hasn’t been going long enough to fully evaluate it, but we are en couraged with it so far. We are planning about three and one half million of construction which will greatly increase our present faci lities,” said Dr. E. D. McMurry, assistant to the dean of veterinary medicine. The Executive and Curriculum Committee of the college adopted the trimester sytem in order to' shorten the time required to get a degree and at the same time in crease the quality of veterinary training. The program requires two years and 11 months, which is nine-and- a-half months shorter than the old semester program. Dr. Melvin Ray Calliham, profes sor and head of veterinary medicine and surgery, is in favor of the tri mester system. “We think it’s going to work out real well. Students get to work with animal diseases throughout the year before they graduate,” said Dr. Calliham. “We have/ diseases that are more prevalent in the summer time, and in the semester program students didn’t get to work with these cases. Some of the boys get in an extra trimester in third year clinic, which to a large extent would offset the boys working with vets at home or someplace else. We can also use our staff for better personal attention with the students,” he added. Dr. J. H. Denton, who works with the ambulatory service and is an assistant professor of veterinary medicine and surgery, also favors the trimester setup. “Most of the professors are over worked now, but we know this is going to level out before long,” said Dr. Warren D. Evers, assist ant professor of veterinary medi cine and surgery. LAYAWAY FOR CHRISTMAS Be an early-bird, and Layaway your gifts conveniently at GIBSON’S until Christmas Eve.
