Vents placed in the gable ends of the house, under the eaves or installed in the roof will be adequate. The engineer suggests about four square feet of clear openings for each 1,000 square feet of attic floor. Storm doors, storm windows and attic insulation not only cut heat loss and save fuel but also reduce drafts. This means a more uni form heating system throughout the house, points out Allen. Next summer the insulation in the at tic will help keep the house cooler, too.
