THE BATTALION I
§
Lutherans Planning Fete
Battalion Church News
Members of Our Saviour’s
Lutheran Church will celebrate
the 25th anniversary of the con
gregation and the 10 anniver
sary of the dedication of the
Sanctuary October 4.
The church has grown from a
congregation of about 12 mem
bers to a vast membership of
541, bringing pride and happi
ness to its members.
A little band of Lutherans, on
December 19, 1939, adopted a
constitution for the American
Lutheran Church of College Sta
tion. The group, including A&M
students, met on Sunday evening
in the YMCA for several years.
Their work was well rewarded
when in 1948 the congregation
and students saw the dedication
of the Lutheran Student Center.
During the early 1950’s, the
name of the congregation was
changed to Our Saviour’s Luth
eran Church. But the changes
did not stop. A beautiful church
was built, adding fuel to the
flames of hope of that little band
of Lutherans, now a large con
gregation.
Even now, plans are being ex
ecuted to increase the physical
structures of the church.
The spiritual growth of the
church has been greatly favored
by the excellent leadership of the
pastors who have served and are
now serving.
Such leadership includes Pas
tors Hartmann, Mgebroff, Swy-
gert, Svendsen, Brossia (intern),
Bulgerin, Fry (intern), Ruch,
Gaiser (intern), Rostvold (assis
tant), and Birk.
From the beginning the pur
pose of the church’s work has
been to administer to all Luth
erans in the community. It has
adhered to this purpose for 25
years.
The out-reaching of the con
gregation’s work and student’s
work throughout the years has
had far-reaching effects. In
hopes for future success, the
members have as the anniversary
theme “Forward With Christ.”
Pastor Kurt Hartmann, the
first pastor of the church, will
be the principal speaker for the
afternoon anniversary service.
All former pastors have been in
vited.
Registration of guests will be
gin at 1:30.
Pinkie Announces
Campus Visitors

P. L. Downs Jr., A&M’s official
greeter, announced. They were

ences, class reunions and other
scheduled meetings.
World Wide Communion will be
observed Sunday at the A&M
Methodist Church at 8:30 a.m.
and 10:55 a.m. services. A new
class for married undergraduates
will meet for the second time at
9:45 a.m. Sunday in the Wesley
Foundation Building.
The Methodist Church will have
a family picnic at Hensel Park
at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. A worship
service will be conducted after
the meal. College students have
been invited and are not expect
ed to furnish their own food.
