A&M can be attributed to the top
administrative university officials.
The administrators are constantly
working toward the betterment of
the university not only in name,
but in mind and spirit.
Dr. M. T. Harrington, chancel
lor of the A&M University System,
has served at A&M as professor,
Dean of Arts and Sciences, dean
and president of the college. He
became system chancellor in 1953.
President Earl Rudder began
college at Tarleton State
College and received his B. S. de
gress in industrial education at
A&M in 1932.
Rudder became president in 1959
after serving as vice president for
one year.
Dean of Students James P. Han-
nigan came to A&M after retiring
from the Army as a brigadier
general in July of 1959. Hannigan
is responsible for the development
and welfare of students in areas
other than academic.
Dr. William J. Graff Jr. assumed
the position of Dean of Instruction
in 1961. He works closely with the
views of the faculty to the ad
ministration and the views of ad
ministration to the faculty.
Dean of Arts and Sciences Frank
W. R. Hubert studied history,
government and education adminis
tration and received three degrees,
from the University of Texas.
Hubert joined the A&M staff in
1959.
The Dean of Engineering, Fred
J. Benson, first came to A&M in
1937 as a instructor. He is former
vice-director of the Texas Engi
neering Experiment Station and
executive officer for the Texas
Transportation Institute.
Dr. Wayne C. Hall became Dean
of the Graduate School in 1960.
In addition to his direction of
graduate studies, Hall is an active
researcher in plant pathology and
physiology.
Dean of Agriculture R. E. Pat
terson has served at A&M since
1943 and as dean since 1960.
Patterson received a bachelors in
agriculture from Louisiana State
University and received his Mas
ters and Doctorate at A&M.
Dr. Alvin A. Price became Dean
of the College of Veterinary Medi
cine in 1957. He received his D.V.M.
from A&M after receiving his B. S.
in dairy husbandry and serving in
the Army.
Col. Denzil L. Baker assumed
duties as professor of Military
Science in 1963. He directs Army
ROTC instruction and oversees the
operation of the Corps. Baker is
a 1933 A&M graduate and a vet
eran of WW II and the Korean
Conflict.
Capt. Bennett M. Dodson became
head of the Texas Maritime Ac
ademy with its creation in 1962.
Dodson has commanded a destroyer
and was executive officer of the
battleship Iowa.
H. L. Heaton has served in the
registrar’s office at A&M since
1934. Heaton holds his B. S. de
gree from Stephen F. Austin State
Teachers College and his M. S.
from A&M.
Tom D. Cherry is Director of
Business Affairs for the university
and is responsible for overall busi
ness of the school.
Dr. Andrew D. Suttle Jr. is vice
president for research. He is a
graduate of Mississippi State, and
received his doctorate from the
University of Chicago.
