THE BATTALION Page 4 College Station, Texas Thursday, June 11, 1964 ADJACENT TO DOMED STADIUM Houston Plans Livestock, Rodeo Hall Plans for the new home of the Houston Livestock Show were pre sented Tuesday at the annual meet ing of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Association. The new home will be built ad jacent to the famed Harris County Domed Stadium, which will house the rodeo held as a feature of the livestock show. Construction is set tentatively to begin Nov. 1, 1964. The show will be held in the new facilities begin ning in 1966. The new home, a giant Y-shaped building, will be the world’s larg est air-conditioned livestock exhi bition hall under one roof. It will cover 12 acres and will accommo date 1,700 head of halter cattle, 600 horses, 1,000 commercial cattle, 1,- 200 swine, 1,200 sheep and goats. The new building will offer a 208 feet by 80 feet judging arena, separate sheep and swine arenas, an auction arena for breed sales and commercial cattle, facilities for poultry and rabbits, a milking par lor, with observation facilities, and level ramp loading facilities. Contracts for the exhibition hall have been signed with the Houston Sports Association, and approved by the Harris County Commission ers Court. Plans and specifications are being drawn by Lloyd, Morgan & Jones, and the Wilson, Morris, Crain & Anderson architectural firms. New officers elected at the meet ing were: G. D. Hi President Lang expressed his ap preciation to the membership for making the ’64 show the most suc cessful ever, with a record num ber of volunteer committee work ers. He said a record number of rodeo entrants competed for the lai’gest purse offei*ed at any rodeo in the world except the National Finals, a Rodeo Cowboys of Amer ica sponsored event.
