Korean Byung Don Lee, a doc
toral student in oceanography, will
learn some Spanish as well as
collect small marine creatures dur
ing a cruise to Antarctica this
month.
He will be aboard an Argentine
vessel to supervise oceanographic
observations and to collect zoo
plankton for his doctoral disserta
tion.
Lee leaves here Monday on his
trip to Antarctica. On an earlier
trip a friend who spoke Spanish
traveled with him to Buenos Aires.
“I’ve never had a formal course
in Spanish. If they don’t under
stand my English, I’ll just speak
louder,” he quipped.
Lee will carry three Spanish
phrase books with him—just in
case his shouting isn’t understood.

BIG, BIG PARTY

College Station, Texas
Tom Gets Gun;
Coach Thrown
In Austin Bath
By JIM BUTLER
Associate Editor
Thomas Dean Chandler is four
and one-half years old and the
proud owner of a new cap rifle.
And standing outside the A&M
dressing room beneath Memorial
Stadium in Austin, he let every
one know it.
“My daddy said I could have a
rifle if we beat Texas and we did,
we did,” little Tom joyously shout
ed. Tom’s father is Tom Chandler,
coach of the A&M 1964 South
west Conference baseball cham
pions.
About the time that little Tom
was proclaiming the Aggie won,
his father was being dumped in
the showers by a tired and happy
Cadet nine.
It had been a long two days
for the Aggies who never seem to
do anything the easy way. Now
they were enjoying their glory.
The stars of A&M’s 5-2 victory
were being congratulated but
their names weren’t easy to find.
“Just pick a name,” Frank
Stark said, “and you’ve got one
of the stars.”
As the Aggies boarded the bus
for the ride home, they tried to
relax but the excitement wasn’t
over yet.
The team bus turned off at
Caldwell to take the back road
into College Station. Before they
had gone 100 yards the bus was
pulled over by a state trooper.
His question — “Are you the
Aggies ? ”—was greeted by cheers
and shouts. “Follow me,” he said.
The bus turned around and
headed into Bryan on Highway
21. As far as 10 miles from the
city limits cars were parked
along the road greeting the team
with horn honks. By the time the
team reached the circle the line
of cars behind the bus stretched
almost to Bryan.
