Dr. Sisler, a co-patenter of a new process for the synthesis of hydra zine, describes production materials used as a catalyst in producing plastics. The meeting was held in Room 231 of the Chemistry Building. Dr. Sisler also attended a banquet of the A&M chapter of Sigma Xi Wednesday night. Dr. Sisler has published more then 100 papers. He is co-author of nine textbooks in the fields of general, analytical and inorganic chemistry. In 1960, Dr. Sisler received the outstanding Southeastern Chemist Award, given by the Florida Sec tion of the American Chemical Society. He has been head of the chemistry department at Florida since 1956. ★ ★ ★ W. B. Mansfield of the A&M’s Engineering Extension Service is author of a two-part series in the “Meat Processing Jour nal.” Circulated nationally, the jour nal carries the article entitled, Communications, Better Person nel Relations.” Mansfield is head of the En gineering Extension Service’s supervisory training department. Raymond A. Dietrich of the U. S. Department of Agriculture has been assigned to cooperative re search with the staff of the De partment of Agricultural Econo mics and Sociology. Dietrich is attached to the Mar keting Economics Division of USDA’s Economics Research Ser vice. His research field is live stock. The economist is an agricultural economics graduate of A&M, and expects to complete requirements for a doctoral degree this spring at Oklahoma State University. Dietrich began work with the USDA after receiving his MS de gree in 1957 at A&M. ★ ★ ★ Election of officers will high light the 35th annual meeting of the Federation of A&M Moth ers’ Club at Texas A&M Uni versity Saturday. Can 29= i” Physicist Belittles Laser Weapons Industrial physicist Herbert Trotter Jr., who developed one of America’s most important weapons of World War II, said at A&M University Wednesday that laser- ray guns as weapons are strictly for the funny papers. “Rifles are much more effective than Buck Rogers’ weapons,” Dr. Trotter told a Graduate Lecture audience. The chairman of the board of General Telephone and Electronics Laboratories, Inc., developed the V-T or proximity fuze in 1945. He said it would take half of this country’s electrical generating plants to produce a light beam to melt the nuclear warhead of one ballistic missile.
