Chuck Malitz blasted a three-run
homer in the bottom of the tenth
inning- to give the Aggie Fish
a 6-3 baseball win Wednesday over
the Blinn Buccaneers at Travis
Park. The shot over the right
field wall came off ace Blinn lefty
Ray Hooten, who had a phenomenal
total of 18 strikeouts.
Tommy Chiles, a steady hurler
from Shreveport, La., went the dis
tance for the Fish without allowing
a single earned run. Chiles scat
tered seven hits, struck out eight,
and gave up three walks.
Sophs Take Charge
Of Baseball Stats
Sophomores dominate the A&M
varsity baseball statistics after 11
conference games, paced by Lance
Cobb’s .447 batting average and
Steve Hillhouse’s 5-1 won-lost rec

Koonce, with a .359 average, close
ly follows Cobb, while senior hur
ler Chuck McGuire is sporting a
3-1 record.
As a team, the Aggies are hit
ting a phenomenal .294. There
are a stableful of batters over .300.
Besides Cobb and Koonce, there is
Bill Hancock at .359, George Har

.340. The list also includes Frank
Stark, at .321, and Fred Carlton,
with .333.
The Fish started the scoring in
the first inning when leftfielder
Jay Yarter singled across short
stop Jeff Warren, who had hit
safely and then advanced on a
walk.
The Buccaneers came back in
the sixth inning by combining two
singles and two Fish errors for a
pair of runs. Hooten completely
stifled the Fish bats until the
eighth inning.
With two men out in the eighth,
centerfielder Malitz singled to cen
ter. Footballer John Poss, batting
cleanup, sliced a long double to
right field, advancing Malitz to
third. The clutch-hitting Yarter
then singled in two more runs.
Jeff Warren misjudged a bouncer
in the ninth inning to give Blinn
new life. With two men out, Blinn’s
Rozypal lashed a double to center,
driving in the tying run.
A double play and a pickoff
helped Chiles get out of the tenth
inning without trouble. Second
