and swinging a big bat for the Aggies.
It’s opening day at Kyle Field
Saturday as the Fish track team
makes its debut in a triangle meet
against the University of Texas
Shorthorns and the Rice Owlets.
The meet will be run off simul
taneously with the A&M varsity-
LSU-Rice meet.
Leading the freshmen into com
petition will be Texas shot put
champion Randy Matson, high
jumper Mike Schrider, sprinter
James White, sprinter-field man
Sports Day Tickets
Sold At Six Spots
Only two days remain for Ag
gies to get their tickets for Spring
Sports Day, scheduled for this
Saturday.
Tickets can be bought for $1 at
two locations on campus and four
in Bryan.
The cashier’s desk in the Me
morial Student Center and the
Athletic Department ticket office
are the places at A&M.
Bryan ticket offices are at Con
way’s Downtown, Western Auto
Supply, Franklin’s Furniture and
The Varsity Shop in Townshire.
A ticket will be necessary for
attendance at the four athletic
events of the day. A&M’s fresh
man track team hosts Texas and
Rice in a triangular meet to be
run simultaneously with the var
sity meet with LSU and Rice.

These, along with several other
former state schoolboy champions
form “the best all-around fresh
man team I’ve ever had here,”
Coach Charlie Thomas said.
Action will start at 1 p.m., with
the field events, featuring Matson
and Jack Pyburn in the shot put.
Matson and Pyburn, the 1963
Louisiana discus champ, will also
be in the discus along with Randy
Juge.
The Fish will have depth in the
high jump with 6-7 leaper Schrid
er and two 6-0 jumpers, Junge and
Stephen Holtz. The mile run will
also see Aggies stacked with the
likes of Earl, Texas 4A champion
in 1963, Danny Clifton, Class B
state champ, and Johnnie Cosper,
Don Smith and Bob Smith.
A&M’s 440-yard relay will be of
Don Price, Buster Mason, Wood-
all and White. In the 100 and 220-
yard dashes will be White, Price
and Mason. White was the Class
4A winner in both the 100 and 220
last season.
Competing in the 440-yard dash
for the Aggie Fish will be Larry
McGough, Darrell Wilk and David
Jeffrey. The Maroon mile relay
unit will be Arie Britt, White,
Woodall and McGough.
Taking charge of the hurdles,
both 120-yard and 440-yard, will
be Robert Ginsback. Earl Edwards
will enter the pole vault with Joe
Moseley while Woodall, Holtz and
Moseley will be in the broad jump.
