Four of the first five in total defense in NCAA Service Bureau statistics released Wednesday will be up against stubborn opposition. Only Princeton, second in team de fense, has what is regarded as an easy foe, Brown. Mississippi puts its defense lead on the line against Louisiana State; Florida, third in defense, faces Auburn, one of four unbeat en, untied major teams; Michigan State, fourth defensively, plays defending Big Ten champion Wis consin, 11th in total offense, and Army, fifth in defense, meets the Air Force, 10th in total offense. Mississippi also is the leader in Stingiest Saturday rushing defense and tied with Princeton in defense against scor ing, each having allowed 20 points in five games. North Carolina is tops in forward pass defense and Southern Methodist continues as the punting leader. North Carolina has yielded only an average of 45.2 yards a game to enemy passers. Southern Meth odist’s punting average is 44.7 yards. Mississippi has allowed less than two yards a carry to opposition rushers. Ohio University has proven the toughest defender against pass completions, having limited the op position to a 30.3 completion per centage.
