Spoi'ts Editor A&M’s Fish footballers will try to get into the victory column to night as they host the Cubs of Baylor University. The game will not only be a league contest but one that will benefit the Crippled Children’s program. Sponsoring the game and program are the Shriners who are headed by Tom King, chairman. Suffering a 10-0 defeat to TCU in their first outing, the Fish will seek to balance off the record with a victory over the Cubs who disposed of the Texas Shorthorns 21-17 in their first game. BAYLOR squeaked out a close 107 score last year and the Fish squad will also consider that point when they take the field. Expected to take the helm for ] the second game will be John Worst, a 160-pounder from Sun Ray who led the Frosh in rushing yardage against the Wogs, rack ing up 22 yards in four carries. Lloyd Curington will be at the left half post while his running mate at the right half slot will be Dan Westerfield. Curington gained 15 yards in three attempts in his debut. Westerfield, a 170-pounder from Crawford will be seeing acti vity for the first time. Joe Weiss, the hefty fullback will round out the backfield machine. Four universities were repre- Merritt Tops Handballers; Tourney Near The A&M Handball Club held its first meeting of the year Tues day night and elected the following officers: President, Ed Merritt; Vice President, Jerry Levy; Secre tary, Ben Jackson; Treasurer, Bill Altman; Social Director, Vic Clark. Ray Allen is the publicity chair man. Aside from the election of offi cers, positions were set up on the club’s ladder and play has already started. Anyone interested can get m the ladder by reading the rules posted on the club bulletin board. An open handball tournament will be held on Oct. 23 with last day of registration today. They lost in the quarters against Geoff Knox and Mike Garza from Corpus Christi, 4-6, 7- 5 and 7-5, in a very close match. In the singles Rojas upset Knox, seeded number three, 6-4, 7-9 and 6-2. Trinity, which is ranked No. 1 college in the nation, carried a- way honors in both singles and doubles competition. Andy Lloyd, one of the top members of the famed team, went to the finals; deposed Edward Guell, Corpus Christi, 6-4, 6-4; then ousted fourth seeded Don Kierbow, Cor pus Christi, 6-3, 6-3 and finally beat Gabino Palafox, Corpus Chris ti, 6-4, 7-5. Butch Newman, fifth-seeded in the tournament and also a mem ber of the Trinity tennis team, reached the final by first beating Charles Bowers, Odessa College, 6-4, 7-5; then defeating Mike Garza, Corpus Christi, 7-5, 6-4; durbbing Luis Rojas, A&M, 6-0, 6-4, and eliminating second seeded Cliff Bucholz, also from Trinity University, 6-2, 6-3. BAYLOR’S attack will center around Terry Southall, the 175- pounder who passed and ran the Shorthorns out of Waco in the Cub opener. One player to watch on the squad will be their towering left end, Jack Eisenhart, the giant from San Antonio Jeff who grabbed one pass in the end zone against Texas and ignited several scoring drives with his pass re ceiving. Baylor’s starting line will aver age 202 to 198 for A&M. The Cub backfield will be eight pounds heavier, 183-175. Spirited Workouts As Ags Prepare To Invade Fort Worth The Aggies wound up contact ' work for the week with another spirited workout Wednesday in preparation for Saturday’s foot ball battle with TCU in Fort Worth. Only Aggie on the doubtful list is halfback Travis Reagan who is recuperating from a shoulder injury received in the Texas Tech game two weeks ago. He’ll be in uniform and availa ble for duty but Budgie Ford will start at the left half slot. Ford and Tommy Meeks, both juniors, have the starting half back positions for the second straight week. Seniors Jim Kel ler and Jerry Rogers will open at quarterback and fullback, re spectively. Bowlers In Fourth After First Meeting Of College League A&M’s bowling team returned from' Waco this weekend in fourth place after the first round of play in the Texas Intercollegiate Bowling Association. The Cadet keglers won five games and dropped seven. Arling ton State, currently in first place with an 11-1 record, opened play by taking all four games from the Aggies. The second match found the Far mers reversing their field and sweeping four from San Antonio College. The last match with TCU ended with A&M winning one and losing three. The next round will be Nov. 16 in San Antonio.
