Read To Receive $200 Scholarship An A&M University senior ma joring in accounting will receive a $200 scholarship award Tuesday night, from the Houston capter of the Financial Executives Insti tute. READ USDA Cites Vet Students’ Exam Scores The College of Veterinary Medi cine has been .notified by the U. S. Department of Agriculture that its 1963 graduates made the na tion’s highest average score on an accreditation examination. Dr. Edgar McMurray, assistant to the dean of veterinary medicine at A&M, said all graduates of all veterinary schools take the Civil Service-type test to qualify as co-operators with the USDA’s An imal Disease Eradication Division. Most veterinarians work with the ADED’s various disease control programs, he said. The College of Veterinary Medi cine, one of 18 in the nation, pro duced 51 graduates this year. Dr. F. P. This is the second year that a A&M student has been honored by the Houston chapter. The award is given for outstand ing scholarship and other achieve ment to a student nominated by a faculty committee. “Read has made an excellent scholastic record and has demon strated himself in every way to be a leader," Dr. John E. Pearson, head of the School of Business Ad ministration, said. The Aggie senior has won Dis tinguished Student listing for aca demic achievement each semester since he entered A&M in 1960. Read was graduated from high school at Groveton where he was a class officer and an athlete. At A&M he has served as a member of the Civilian Student Council. Read plans to enter the in dustrial accounting field after graduating next May. The Financial Executives In stitute is composed of comptrol lers, auditors and accountants from the management area of fin ance in industry. Temple Veterans To Attend Game A busload of veterans from the Veterans Administration Center at Temple will attend a football game here for the 17th year in a row when the Aggies play Baylor University Oct. 26. P. L. (Pinkie) Downs, Jr., offi cial greeter for A&M University, said the veterans will be guests of the university and its Department of Athletics. Downs, member of the class of 1906, is the man who organized the trip 17 years ago. Downs said the veterans will sit in reserved box seats on the cinder path along the west side of Kyle Field. He said the dining halls, head ed by Frank Nugent, will have noon and everting meals ready for the group. Harley D. Mitchell, chief of rec reation for VA Center, said the bus will arrive at College Station at 11:30 a.m. Mrs. Margaret Wade of the VA will be trip supervisor. Doyle of the Texas Transportation Institute addressed delegates to the Transportation Management Seminar Thursday at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Doyle, A&M’s McDonald pro fessor of transportation, cited problems confronting the trans portation industry and called on Congress to appoint a commission “to study and present a complete new transportation act in tune with the realities of today.” “If such a bill were presented to Congress,” Doyle commented, “I believe there are enough hon est, public spirited men on the Hill to enact it.” FACTS, MAN, FACTS!
