Dear Mama,
As you know, the team flew down to Baton Rouge last
Saturday to beat the Louisiana State University Tigers. I
WPP! hnrvov when I found ent Thqt T wpcn’f; +V|o onlv 0U6 who
hed never been on an airnipno before. There were four
other guvs and we all sat together clutching our little white
paper sacks. The stewardesses helned a lot. One of them
was real cute. She slmked down the aisle saying, “Coffee,
tea or me?”
When we got to Baton Rouge we had a police escort
out to the stadium. A ladv driver in front of us got kind
of shook and pulled up clear over the curb onto somebody’s
lawn.
After we worked out Friday afternoon, we flew to New
Orleans. Boy. what a town! They had girls what were
girls. And the liquor. Mama, you wouldn’t believe it!
There was more liquor there than Saturday Evening Post
has lawsuits. They even had a street named Bourbon.
Saturday morning it was back to Baton Rouge and a
short rest. We cot out to the stadium twn hours before
game time and there were already people in the stands.
When we ran out on the field to warm up it was loaded.
They said there were 68.000 people there and I’ll bet 60,000
were veiling for the Tigers.
I won’t go into detail on the game, Mama, since you
probably read about it in the paper. I’ll tell you this though,
we’re going to do a lot better against Ohio State this weekend.
The team has a real good attitude and we all feel we
can win. We’re going to have trouble with the Buckeye
backfield though. Their three running backs are faster than
Texas jackrabbits. But we have a few shotgun shells for
them.
That’s all for now, Mama.
Your loving son.

Bowling- activities for the new

The tournament has two divi
sions, the upperclass division for
students who have previously at

October 10 to bowl the 15 lines or
he can bowl them all in one day.
Five of those dollars will be put
in the prize ‘fund.
A bowling ball drilled to the
winner’s order will be offered as
top prize in each division with
other prizes distributed to second
and third place victors. Free
games will go to the first, second,
and third high 3-game series in
each division.

Sooners Get Nod
In Trojan Clash
’ By WILL GRIMSLEY
AP Sports Writer
NEW YORK UP)—Bud Wilkin
son is a big-moment coach and
Oklahoma is a big-moment teem—
the kind that comes up for dra
matic situations. Such a situation
arises Saturday when the Sooners
play Southern California with the
No. 1 national rating at stake.
This is also bounce back week
for such red-faced teams as Wash
ington and Mississippi as well as
for this crystal ball-gazer, whose
opening mark was 30-13 for .697.
A new day—a fresh guess:
OKLAHOMA 18, Southern Cali
fornia 10: Neither team played* at
best last week. The quick, lerm
Sooners should stop Pete Beath-
ard and his mates in a rugged
game.
WISCONSIN 24, Notre Dame
14: The fig’hting- Irish show more
fight than usual under interim
coach Hugh Devore but the Badg
ers hammer away at their weak
tackles.
MICHIGAN 19, Southern Meth
odist 14: Home field advantage;
if it were in Dallas, we’d take
SMU.
RICE 8, Louisiana State 3: The
Owls are always tough for the
Tigers from Jim Corbett’s bayou
land.
WARRINGTON 15, Pittsburgh
13: The Huskies atone for last
week’s letdown; the powerful Pan
thers seem to play better on the
road.
ARKANSAS 14, Missouri 7:
Billy Gray’s Houdini hall-handling
does the job for the Porkers.
TEXAS 25, Texas Tech 0; Tom
my Ford should be good for two
or three touchdowns.
