Gets NSF Gift
The Department of Oceanog
raphy and Meteorology has received
a National Science Foundation
grant of $25,700 for further study
of ocean current measurements in
the Drake Passage south of South
America, President Earl Rudder
announced Tuesday.
The project now in its third year
is concerned with surface and deep
current measurements in the
stormy passage linking the Atlantic
and Pacific.

years was presented to A&M’s
archives last week by A. L. Ward
of Dallas.

Ward, educational director of
the National Cottonseed Products
Association from 1926 until his re
tirement in 1957, donated manu
scripts of 318 of his speeches made
to agricultural and business groups
during his career. An A&M gradu
ate in 1910 and a former Agricul
tural Extension swine husbandry-
man, Ward has spoken on the
history and progress of Texas agri
culture throughout the state.

The Singley twins who compiled
an enviable record as students and
athletes at A&M will hold assist
antships in the Department of

The appointments, effective in
September, were announced by Dr.
Paul Hensarling.
Manuscripts Received
President Earl Rudder receives speech manuscripts for the
A&M Archives from A. L. Ward of Dallas, right, long-time
speaker on Texas agriculture, and Professor Fred Hale,
center, look on. Ward, retired educational director for the
National Cottonseed Products Association, donated 318
manuscripts when his office was moved from Dallas to
Tennessee. -
In accepting the material, Presi
dent Earl Rudder noted that the
speeches will serve both as in
formation and inspiration to stu
dents.
