Tex Robertson of Burnet said,
“considering the number of young
sters who participate. Today there
are over 3,000 swimmers in the
state.”
“It we had this meet 15 years
ago,” the added, “we would have
only 30 or 40 participants.”
Robertson, a member of Texas
Age Group Swimming advisory
committee, is one of several per
sons making plans for the meet.
Participants will be winners
from eight Texas districts, plus
eight youngsters over the state
with fastest times. Their ages
will range from 11 to 17 years.
MANAGERS OF the eight dis
tricts will help screen contestants.
A&M swimming coach Art Adam
son and Emil Mamaliga will serve
as honorary referee and meet
manager.
Synchronized swimming and
water polo events will be limited
to the top teams in each district.
Water polo judging will be done on
the same basis as the international
Olympics.
The entire meet, in fact, will be
conducted in Olympic fashion. Stu
dents will be housed in dormitories
and eat in campus dining halls by
teams.
EVENTS FOR juniors (ages 11
and 12) include 50 and 100 meter
free-style, 50 meter backstroke, 50
meter breaststroke, 50 meter but
terfly, one meter diving and syn
chronized swimming.
Intermediates, ages 13 and 14,
will compete in 100 and 200 free
style, 100 meter backstroke, 100
meter breaststroke, 100 meter but
terfly, one and three meter diving
and synchronized swimming.
Seniors, 15 through 17, will be
the same as intermediate events
plus 400 meter freestyle competi
tion.
WATER POLO and snychronized
swimming events will also have
open divisions for youngsters 11
and older.

tennis tournament to be held Aug.
26-30 for younsters 18. years old
and younger.
Competition is open to all resi
dents of Bryan, College Station,
Hearne, Caldwell, Madisonville,
Calvert, Franklin and Navasota.
Omar Smith, A&M tennis coach,
has been named director of the
tourney.
A CLUB spokesman said there
will be six brackets of play for
boys and six for girls as follows:
Single play for those 14 and
under, singles for ages 15 and 16,
and singles for ages 17 and 18.
Doubles play for those 14 and
under, doubles for ages 15 and 16,
and doubles for ages 17 and 18.
The spokesman said entrants
may register today through Aug.
23 between 9 a.m. and noon with
any of the following:

son Park, Annabell Young at Sue
Haswell Park, Zan Colson at
Stephen F. Austin Tennis Courts
and Coach Smith at the Tennis
Shop, 1412 Texas Ave.
Registration may also be made

A FEE OF 75 cents will be
charged per entrant, per bracket
entered. The spokesman said
mailed registration applications
should be acompanied by the fee
and contain the entrant’s name,
address, age and date of birth.
