They are, left to right, from the Texas Engineering Library to Aggies Ronnie Haag, Elroy Young and Don temporary quarters in Bagley Hall as a Barrier, and high school student Pete preliminary step toward construction of new Tucker. STEP TOWARD NEW FACILITIES Engineering Library Books Transferred To Bagley Hall Moving 100,000 volumes as a pre liminary step toward construction of new library facilities at A&M is expected to be completed within two weeks. Being moved is the Texas Engi neers Library Collection. Books may be checked out dur ing the moving period. “The purpose of the move,” A&M Librarian Robert A. Houze said, “is to vacate temporarily the Texas Engineers Library Building, so that the new library building construc tion can be started early in the fall. The new building will ex tend from the rear of Cushing Memorial Library to enclose three sides and the top of the engineer library building.” A CREW OF 12 students is work ing long hours including weekends to complete the transfer to the ground floor of Bagley Hall on the north side of Cushing Library. Houze said the first floor of Bagley Hall will be used for The Texas Engineer Library. The sec ond floor will continue to be used generally for classrooms and of fices. Plans for the $1,500,000 library expansion program with comple tion in 1965 as the goal were an nounced earlier by President Earl Rudder. The expansion will more double space available for library service. Moving the Texas Engineers Li brary Collection is more diffi cult than moving into a new build ing, Houze said. He explained that books must be removed from the stacks or metal shelving, the shelv es must be taken apart and moved to Bagley Hall and reassembled, and then the books carted to the new quarters. “Certain services of the Texas Engineers Library will be trans ferred to Cushing until the build ing program is completed,” Houze said. The atomic energy collection and documents of other governmental agencies engaged in research and development work will be available in the Sciences Periodical Reading Room on the third floor of Cush ing Library. DETAILED AND exhaustive searches of technical literature also will be handled at the main library. “The Texas Engineers Library itself will retain in addition to a general circulation service the gen eral reference, map and interlibrary loan services,” the librarian said. There will be air-conditioning for the most-used portions of the new quarters in Bagley Hall. Houze said air-conditioning is made possi ble through the A&M System office of Physical Plant. The library entrance will he on the Cushing Library side of Bag- ley Hall. The entrance for the second floor stairway is on the parking lot side of the building.
