Turnpike by Robert B. Phipps of Grand Two Hawaiian Boy Scouh Will Help Plant Scientists &if Pll M Two Hawaiian Boy Scouts, have volunteered a helping hand to two A&M scientists studying the chem ical composition of nucleic acids of cultivated and wild species of cotton. The Scouts have consented to gather tomentosum seed for the scientists as a community project with no expense. They ask in re turn the purpose of the scientists’ work, so that they may better understand why the seed is being collected. According to Dr. David W. Ros- berg, head of the Department of Plant Sciences, the scientists need about 2 pounds of seed from a wild species of cotton, G. tomentosum, which is found only in Hawaii. The scientists wrote George M. Yamane, superintendent, Experimental De partment, Dole Corporation, Lanai City, Hawaii, for information! the feasibility of obtaining: much seed.
