and dropped his average to .333
but still paces the Aggies insea
son hitting.
In other departments, Bill Han
cock leads the squad in runs-bat-
ted-in while Jerry Ballard has the
most hits. Frank Stark is the top
slugger with five roundtrippers.
The figures below are for plavers
with at least 30 at-bats and pitch
ers with at least 15 innings pitched.
The statistics are for 21 p;ames
though the A&M record shows only
20 contests. The tie game between
the Cadets and Texas is figured
.in the statistics but does not count
in standings.
The Farmers have five games
to play before the season ends—a
pair with Baylor and three with
the Longhorns.

OUTDOOR CONVENTION SET
ERIE, Pa. (2?) — The annual
convention of the Outdoor Writers’
Association of America will be
held here June 16-22. Co-chair
man Bill Walsh and Roger Latham
have announced that Secretary of
Interior Stewart L. Udall will be
the featured speaker at the annual
dinner on June 20.
The A&M Judo Club met and
elected officers for the coming
year last Tuesday.
Elected were Glenn Piersall,
president; Augustine Alvarado,
vice president; Ned Bums, secre
tary and treasurer and Don Edens,
publicity chairman.
Edens, a holder of a blue belt
and one of the two men in the club
with karate training, has organ
ized a program of instruction for
club members with a g-reen belt or
higher. He expects to have some
of the new members ready for their
green belt tests early in the fall.

Texas shortstop, sets a lively pace
in Southwest Conference batting
as the championship race rolls into
the stretch.
The Longhorn slugger has a 16-
game hitting streak on the fire,
leads the league in runs with 12,
hits with 14 and is tied for the
lead in stolen bases with five.
RONNIE GOODWIN of Baylor
leads the conference in batting
with a gaudy .406 on 13 hits in 32
times at bat. Bethea is second
with 14 out of 40 for .350.

Topning the pitchers are three
unbeaten hurlers — John Collier of
Texas, 3-0; Ed Singley of A&M
and Charles Hartenstein of Texas,
each with 2-0.
The heaviest winner, however, is
the brilliant Lance Brown of Tex
as Christian, a top pro prospect.
He has won five out of six and
worked 53% innings—the busiest
hurler of them all. He also leads
in strikeouts with 54.
JOHN PORTER of Baylor has
the top earned run average with
1.00.
Bill Hancock of A&M leads in
total bases with 23.
