The vise tightened and the pres-
re mounted on the Aggies as
ey fell to Texas Christian 8-2
i Kyle Field Tuesday.
The loss dropped the Cadets in-
a first place tie with the Frogs,
ith sporting 7-3 records. Texas
sat SMU to share the top spot
ith A&M and TCU. The Long-
fmis are now 6-2.
THE FROGGIES opened the
loring with two first inning runs
f starter and loser Chuck Mc-
uire. Billy McAdams, who had
Jur of TCU’s 16 hits, led off
I ith a double and went to third
| hen leftfielder Ray Hall mis-
dged a fly ball by Bob Bigley.
loth runners scored on a double
| \ Konnie McLain.
A&M came back with a single
larker in the bottom of the first
George Hargett’s triple and
|ill Grochett’s ground out.
Hall beat out an infield hit
lid scored on Bill Puckett’s tri-
e to knot the score after two
innings.
The Horned Frogs broke the
deadlock in the fifth with what
proved to be the deciding run.
Don Reynolds reached first on a
fielder’s choice and McLain drew
a walk, sending McGuire to the
showers. John Crain relieved and
was greeted with a run-scoring
single by Fred Jones.
A&M HAD at least one base-
runner every inning against TCU’s
hurler Lance Brown but couldn’t
bring one across the plate after
the second frame.
TCU added three tallies in the
eighth and two in the ninth to
provide the winning margin. Mc
Adams (no kin to A&M’s Robert)
led the Frog hitters with 4-for-5
while Jay Walrath had 3-for-5.
Hargett paced the Aggies with
two hits in four at-bats. The fleet
centerfielder also stole two bases
and made a couple of difficult
catches.
A STRONG wind blowing in
from right - centerfield made fly
balls hard to judge and accounted
for the fact that no home runs were
stroked.
The victory was a major hurdle
for TCU as they now play four
of their last five games with
Rice and SMU, who occupy the
bottom spots in the league.
The Maroon face the toughest
schedule having to play a pair in
Waco against Baylor and three
against Texas.
Coach Tom Chandler’s squad
tests the Bruins Friday and Sat
urday then move to Austin Tues
day to make up their postponed
season opener with the Steers.
FAST TRAVELERS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., <A>)
Some of American’s top stock car
racing drivers not only Havel fast
on the track. Some are becoming
airplane pilots.
Among the flier-racers are
Nelson Stacy and Glenn (Fireball)
Roberts. Often they fly from one
race to another, while their mec
hanics drive the cars.
