Columnist Reviews Work,
Calls It ‘Lot Of Fun ’
I’ve enjoyed writing this
column. This is the last one
before editor Alan Payne and I
turn things over to the new staff.
I have made a few people mad
•— insurance men, for example —
and had a lot of fun doing it.
Maybe I have accomplished sever
al things in the process. Here is
a review:
Feb. 7 — The Aggie Band
shrugged off a legislative joke
concerning a change in the state
song from “Texas Our Texas” to
“The Eyes of Texas.” As it
Barnhart said he couldn’t re-
Barnhart sai dhe couldn’t re
member the band ever playing the
state song, so it really didn’t
matter. What’s more, they didn’t
have the sheet music to “Texas
Our Texas.”
Feb. 14 : — I cussed persistant,
low-life insurance salesmen who
pester students for a quick in
surance bargain, often violat
ing campus rules against solicit
ing.
The local life underwriters
group invited me to dinner shortly
thereafter and told me that they
too were trying to curb the un
ethical efforts of a few insur
ance salesmen in this area. None
of their group are violators, they
assured me.
Feb. 21 — Short comment on a
feature story by the Dallas Times
Herald on on average Aggie fish,
in which the hero transfered to
UT at mid-term, before the arti
cle could run.

ALAN PAYNE EDITOR
Feb. 28 — Warning to confid
ent proponents of thq name-
change to “Texas A&M Univer
sity” that Sen. Bill Moore held
the key to a new name.
Just wait and see on this one.
Mar. 7 — I told of a letter
from the man who wants tp clothe
naked animals who said he was
coming to visit A&M. He never
showed up, in fact, he turned out
to be a gag writer on the Gary
Moore TV show.
Mar. 14 This one was about
politics and why the maritime
academy was cut off by the
House appropriations committee.
Mar. 21 — This column was on
the Graduate Record Exam fraud
being put over on seniors by the
deans and/or faculty. It is posi
tively not a requirement for
graduation but the wording of
the announcements led students to
believe it was.
No sweat here — I just didn’t
take the denied thing. Who wants
a graduate degree in journalism
anyway ?
Mar. 28 — Comment on the
Daily Texan’s editorial stands on
A&M issues with their radical
solutions.
April 4 — 01’ Windy didn’t like
this one. Nothing but praise
from the Ags however. New
locks on dorm doors, though.
April 18 — I didn’t hear any
thing from the Houston exes on
this criticism of their Muster
being held on April 22 instead of
the 21st.
So that’s it. I’ve made some
people mad, but that’s life.
