The old record was 2918 set by the Aggies in 1900. Tony Servello, senior from Anaco, Venezuela, led the Cadets with a 609 series. Ray Snow shot 570 while Skipper Ro binson had 502, John Tinney chip- ,oed in 555 and Larry Glisan shot 507. CONSISTENCY was the key as rhe Ags put together games of 938, 923, 948 for the trophy. Southern Methodist took second place with 2737 and San Antonio College finished third scoring 2732. A pair of Aggie Fish won the doubles in a close contest with San Antonio and another duo from A&M. The Aggies face the Catholic School Thursday and meet the touring Illini Friday. A&M has an 8-5 season record and stand 3-2 in conference play. The junior third-sacker paces the con ference in home runs with two. Baylor’s Ronnie Goodwin, who won the batting crown as a sopho more, is the leader in hitting with a .429 average. Billy Hale of Rice has the only triple. Texas Christian leads the loop in fielding with .974 but shows only .197 at the plate. Netters Drop One, Then Shutout LSU Coach Omar Smith’s tennis team lost to favored Rice Friday after noon, dropping to 4-8 in Southwest Conference point standings after two league matches, but came back strong Saturday to blank visiting LSU, 9-0. The victory over LSU was the Aggie’s seven against six losses since season play kicked off. The Rice loss was A&M’s first in SWC competition after having defeated TCU the weekend before. Smith’s netters took six singles and three doubles victories Satur day, and dropped only the fourth singles match. Bob Perez and Charles Bowles of San Antonio finished second, two pins back, with 1124. Snow and Button Webb of A&M shot 1123 for third. JOHN MELLGREN a former Agede now attending St. Mary’s College, racked the wood for 617 and the biggest singles trophy. Bill Neitzke of SAC took second with his 611 and Ansel Goldgar of SMU shot 604 for third. Goldgar, needing a 210 in his final game for ton honors in all events, bombed four consecutive strikes in the last four frames for 213 and a winning total of 1760. Lamar Tech’s Emmett Usey spun off 1757 for runner-up honors. Mellgren, the singles champ, went into his final game with only 171 sticks between him and the all events title, but was plagued by splits and ended with a 152 and third place. DON DEAN of Rice accounted for one of the two records set in the tournament with a 275 in the singles competition. Dean had a spare in the fourth and seven pins on his last ball in the tenth frame along with nine strikes. SAC’s Perez challenged Dean’s game when he opened his final game with a six-bagger, a spare and a double. His first ball in the tenth went wide for a seven count and a 256, good for second high game. Third high game of 243 went to SAC’s Neitzke. The other standard set in the three-day meet which started Fri day was Ronnie Mullins’ high series of 654. The bowlers from West Texas State University com bined games of 237, 212, 205 for his record total. PEREZ was second with 634 shot in the team event, Mellgren took third with his singles score of 617. Mullins shot his series in the dou bles event.
