Name-Change Bill
Presented To House
The much-discussed bill to
change A&M’s name to Texas
A&M University was formally
presented to the House Wednes
day by local representative David
Haines, ’51.
First stop for the legislation,
requested by the A&M System
Board of Directors, will be the
House state affairs committee.
Haines predicted that the measure
will probably come to a vote
“in three or four weeks.”
Before the bill is brought to
the floor, a committee hearing
will have to be scheduled. Then
after passing the House, the legis
lation must go to the Senate,
where a similar procedure of com
mittee hearing and readings will
be followed.
that study rooms be made avail
able elsewhere,” Library Director
Robert A. Houze said.
Group To Track
New Satellite
The college has been designated
as one of 54 institutions to serve
as data receiving stations for the
“S-66” satellite to be launched
this month by the National Aero
nautics and Space Administration.
A research group headed by
Dr. John P. German, a professor
of electrical engineering, will
handle details here. Other mem
bers of the group will be Glenn
Gaustad and Wayne F. Wilson,
graduate research assistants who
are using the study in connection
with thesis projects.
Cagers Drop
Year’s Finale
The Aggie basketball squad
fell into a second-place tie with
Rice after dropping the season’s
last game to the Owls, 73-70,
Tuesday night.
The loss left both the Cadets
and Rice with 9-5 SWC records.
In addition, Rice’s Kendall
Rhine caught and tied Aggie
guard Bennie Lenox in the race
for conference scoring honors.
Both stars, who were top-heavy
picks for all-conference teams
during the week, finished league
play with 352 points.
During the Houston game, Le
nox broke Carroll Broussard’s
conference scoring record and
tied his mark for field goals in
a conference season.
The data will be collected
through special antennas mounted
on top of Bolton Hall and re
ceiving and recording equipment
within the building. The Data
Processing Center will also con
tribute on the project.
Unitarian Fellowship will meet
at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Hillel
Foundation Building. The Rev.
Brandoch Lovely of Austin will

It’s the rich-flavor leaf that does it! Among L&M’s choice tobaccos there’s more
longer-aged, extra-cured leaf than even in some unfiltered cigarettes. And L&M’s
filter is the modern filter—all white, inside and outside — so only pure white
touches your lips. L&M’s the filter cigarette for people who really like to smoke.
