Page 2 THE BATTALION College Station, Texas Thursday, December 13, 1962 ' 4 Imjd |?-- v BATTALION EDITORIALS Food Management Studied, After Big Weakness Glares A member of the Student Senate sat-in this morning on a meal-planning session for college dining halls. The senator, acting on Senate recommendations, was to make suggestions for more random menus and less repition of identical dishes. Anyone who has ever eaten regularly in the two dining halls will admit that more varied menus would be desirable. We hope action on such a recommendation will produce favor able results, but The Battalion feels a more inherent problem was brought to light in last Thursday’s Senate meeting dur ing discussions of dining hall service. A senator asked Food Manager John G. Peniston why ; ; more milk was served during the night meal than for break fast. Peniston replied that a previous study by the student , body had resulted in a recommendation that two bottles of milk be served at night, and only one at breakfast. This particular senator and most other members of the' student governing body were not aware of this previous action and were surprised to hear that a previous study had been made. This mere exchange of ideas, on a relatively non-im-J portant problem, threw a completely new light on the dis cussions—there had been a complete breakdown of communi-J cations between the two factions. The Senate, if not also the dining halls, was striving to correct an “evil” about! which it didn’t know the cause. Needless to say, considerable time and effort had been! lost because of little knowledge of the situation. The blame! cannot really be lumped on any one person or group, but a| lesson was presented that can prove profitable almost everyf day for the rest of the school year. • r-'-r-x:-..; >. : :s . •> - NEW YORK (/P)—Federal me diators halted joint peace talks Wednesday in the five-day strike against the city’s nine major newspapers, saying the parties were too far apart for productive sessions.
