YMCA Party
For Foreign
Group Slated
Christmas festivities for Bryan-
College Station’s international stu
dents will begip Thursday night
with a party at the YMCA Build
ing.
Invitations have been mailed to
all international students and their
wives for the 7:30-10:30 p.m. event.
Faculty members from abroad
have also been invited.
Entertainment will include a
performance by Bryan’s First
Methodist Church Bell Choir. Two
students from A&M Consolidated
Elementary School will read poetry
selections.
A Christmas tree and decora
tions will highlight the annual
party and refreshments will be
served.
All-Faiths Chapel
Services Planned
Noonday chapel services will be
held at the All-Faiths Chapel
Monday and Tuesday from 12:30-
12:45 p.m., A. M. Smith, associate
director of the Baptist Student
Center, announced Wednesday.
The services will feature the
Rev. C. B. Elogue, pastor of the
First Baptist Church in Post, Tex.
Horticulture Club
Begins Pecan Sale
The Horticulture Club has be
gun its pecan sale, James De-
Mont, club president, has an
nounced.
Packages of fresh, shelled
pecan halves, containing 10
ounces and selling for $1, can
be purchased at the Horticul
ture Office on the first floor
of the Agriculture Building.
Salesmen will also call on the
various campus offices, DeMont
said. The sale will last until

Baylor Scientist
To Lecture Here
A Baylor Medical College sci
entist in the field of medical in
strumentation research will speak
here Thursday.
The public has been invited to
hear Dr. Leslie A. Geddes, whose
Graduate Lecture Series presenta
tion is scheduled at 3:30 p.m.
‘Pinky, ’ Wife Mark
46th Anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. P. L. “Pinkie”
Downs Jr., will observe their 46th
wedding anniversary at 6 p.m.
Friday at their home, 301 Dexter
Street.
“We look forward to a half cen
tury of wedded life,” Downs said
in announcing the 46th anniversary
plans.
Downs, who is a member of the
Class of ’06, has been connected
with A&M for many years. He
is a former director of the college
and now serves as official greeter
and assistant information repre
sentative in the Department of
College Information and Publica
tions.
Special guests for the 46th an
niversary celebration will be the
five A&M yell leaders. Bill Brash-
ears, head yell leader from San
Antonio, will cut and serve the
anniversary cake. Other yell
leaders who will assist are Thomas
K. Nelson of Bryan, Robert E. An
derson of Montgomery, Franklin
D. Summers of Nacogdoches and
Michael C. Dodge of Austin.
Mr. and Mrs. Downs married 46
years ago in Temple.
Thursday in the Biological Sci
ences Lecture Room.
The presentation is co-sponsored
by Sigma Xi and the Graduate
School.
Geddes is biophysicist for the
Department of Physiology and di
rector of the Biophysics Labora
tory of Baylor Medical College.
He is the author or coauthor of
numerous publications in. the field
of medical instrumentation.
Geddes was born in Port Gor
don, Scotland, and with his fam
ily later migrateii to Canada,
where he received his education.
He obtained bachelor and master
degrees in electrical engineering
from McGill University.
From 1940 to 1945 Geddes
served with the Canadian Army
and engaged in research and de
velopment in electromyography
for the Army Medical Corps. Fol
lowing his army service, he was
on the staff of McGill University
and was engaged in research and
development of electrophysiological
instrumentation.
In 1952 he joined the staff of
Baylor Medical College, and in
1958 he was awarded a Ph.D. in
physiology.
