Coach Hank Foldberg - appears to be a firm believer in
the Boy Scout motto “Be Prepared.” From the time the Ag
gies got the ball on their own 41 yard line with a little over a
minute left in the game, Foldberg had Mike Clark practicing
the field goal he would later kick to heat the Baylor Bears 6-3.
On the sidelines behind the Aggie bench, sophomore
center Donnie Martell was centering the ball to quarterback
John Erickson who placed the ball down for Clark’s imaginary
kick. The extra effort paid off as Clark’s boot sailed straight
and true for the Aggie victory.
Leafing through the record books, we found a few in
teresting facts about Clark’s game-winning field goal against
the Bears. The three-pointer tied Joel Hunt’s Aggie record
of two field goals in a game set in 1926 against TCU. It was
Clark’s third of the season, having kicked one against the
University of Houston.
This ties him with Hunt and Randy Sims for most field
goals by an Aggie in a season. Sims kicked his in 1959 and
Hunt made his in 1926.
Adding the field goal Clark kicked last year against
Texas Tech, he has four career field goals, one short of the
school record. Hunt booted five from 1925 through 1927 and
Johji Ballentine had the same number in his varsity career,
1945-47. : , ...
Clark has four games left in which to tie or break the
record and we feel certain he will have his chance.

SAN FRANCISCO <A>)—Orlando
Cepeda, slugging first baseman of
the San Francisco Giants but a
batting disappointment in the
World Series, said Tuesday his
right eye is bothering him and it
could be a cataract.
Cepeda, who went hitless for the
first five games of the Series
against the New York Yankees but
collected three hits in the sixth
game, first learned about it last
week when he took a driver’s test.

GEORGE HARGETT
Ag Halfback
Does His Job
George Hargett? Who’s he?
Though this question is seldom
heard outside of Aggieland, few
people outside of A&M will hear
bells when this junior halfback’s
name is mentioned.
A quiet little guy (5-9, 170),
Hargett is one of the steadiest per
formers for Coach Hank Foldberg,
while seldom being mentioned in
pre-game buildups.
Against Baylor, Hargett caught
the pass from Jim Keller that set
up the Cadet’s winning field goal.
The play went from the A&M 41
to the Bear 15, with Hargett bounc
ing off four tackles in a supreme
effort to reach the goal line.
Through six games, he has
caught 11 passes for 152 yards to
lead the team in this department
and rank eighth in the conference.
Hargett leads the conference in
punt returns with 15 for 148
yards. His 40 yard punt return
against Texas Tech is the longest
of the season for the Aggies, and
fourth longest in the conference.
As a sophomore, Hargett was
an all-round performer, leading
the team in punt returns with nine,
completing two out of three pass
es, intercepting three tosses, re
turning three kickoffs, catching
three Aggie passes and carrying
the ball 25 times.
