STUDENT CONFERENCE ON NATIONAL AFFAIRS: The Student Conference on National Affairs, better known as SCONA, is held annually in December in the MSC. Attended by student representatives from approximately 60 colleges and universities in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the conference is a symposium to discuss national and international affairs. Eminent leaders in foreign affairs from government, industry, and education, guide the discussion of the delegates. Work in this committee involves the many arrangements neces sary in presenting the conference. Chairman: Victor L. Donnell TALENT: The Talent Committee sponsors the Aggie Talent Show each year, selecting the best talent on campus. The committee also sponsors the nations largest Intercollegiate Talent Show held each year on the campus of Texas A&M. This committee maintains a list of talent prospects available to student groups as well as to the surrounding community. Chairman: S. Edward (Eddie) Duncan / TABLE TENNIS: The Table Tennis Committee sponsors organized tournaments among the A&M students and other colleges and universities. The A&M Table Tennis participates in the Association of Col lege Unions Regional Tournament. Students interested in this fast moving activity should join the MSC Table Tennis Com mittee. Chairman: ’ Arthur C. Kyle TOWN HALL: The Town Hall Committee is responsible for the selecting and presenting of an array of nationally famous concert artists and top-flight entertainment. This year the program consists of THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS and LEON BIBB, DICK SCHORY’s PERCUSSION POPS, THE MANTOVANI OR CHESTRA, THE AJMERICAN JAZZ ENSEMBLE, BASIL RATHBONE, and a mystery guest and other special attrac tions. By patronizing Town Hall over the four year period, a student can become cognizant of the best in American enter tainment. Admission to this outstanding series is gained by purchasing the optional student activity card. Chairman: Claude R. (Randy) Jones SINGING CADETS: Membership in the widely known A&M Glee Club is open to students who enjoy vocal music. Appointments are made after auditions are held during the first two weeks of the fall semes ter. The Singing Cadets furnish music for numerous campus programs and travel to many major cities for concerts and shows. Rehearsals are held Monday through Friday from five to-six p.m. in the Music Hall. HOW YOU CAN JOIN? If you are interested in participating in extra-curricular ac tivities, contact the Student Program Office in the MSC at any time during the year. MSC GOVERNMENT: The Memorial Student Center is governed by a Council of eight students, five faculty members, two former students, and a student representative from the Battalion, the campus news paper. Students always hold the offices of president and vice- president of the MSC Council. The chairmen of the MSC committees compose the Directorate, which plans and directs the activity program. The president and vice-president of the Council also preside over the MSC Directorate. The highest honor attainable by a freshman participating in the MSC program is to be selected a Directorate Assistant. These men are appointed by the MSC Council President during the spring semester, and act as assistants to the president and vice-president for special events presented by the Center. As this brochure has indicated to you, innumerable positions of leadership are open in the MSC student program for those students who begin participating in the committee activities at an early date. ADDITIONAL SERVICES: 1. The MSC Student Program Office serves in an advisory capacity to each of the four classes. 2. The Student Finance Center, provides a banking and book keeping service for all officially recognized student or ganizations on the campus. 3. Any student group wishing to organize into an officially recognized club or organization must obtain a petition of recognition at the Student Finance Center. 4. Graduating seniors may order announcements and invita tions from the Student Finance Center. 5. Students may purchase Season Reserved Seat Tickets for the Town Hall Series at the Student Program Office. 6. Reserved seat tickets for individual performances can be purchased at the performance only. 7. The Office of Music Coordinator assists all student organi zations in the booking of bands, speakers, and shows of all types. ADDITIONAL FACILITIES: Guion Hall Theatre—Movies are shown each weekend at a small charge to cover cost of handling. Class meetings, Aggie Players productions, talent shows, and some Town Hall attrac tions are presented in this auditorium. The Grove—The Grove provides facilities for outdoor dances, movies, yell practices, picnics, and club parties. During the summer season nightly entertainment and movies are pre sented. The Music Hall—For students music activities the College has provided a building located west of Dorm 2 with practice rooms equipped wdth pianos and music stands. The building also has practice rooms for the Singing Cadets, The Aggieland Dance Band, and student combos. The building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, and may be used in the evenings by special permission.
